4 Team Playoff.... Who goes?

  • Bama ND are easy. But who else?

    K State
    Oregon or Stanford
    UGA or Florida or LSU

Well Florida for sure, but then it's according to how far UGA falls. I say we fall to 5th or 6th. So I give the nod to Oregon.

  • Not sure I've seen enough of these teams to say absolutely.

Have to put another SEC team in. I'd say UF or UGA deserves to be in. I'm a big fan of Stanford, but didn't see the loss to Washington and that certainly looks bad. Probably Oregon...think they have a good team and would like to see what they can do. Though I wouldn't have much hope based on how they played Auburn.

This would be a great year for an 8-team playoff. Several teams that could make some noise.

  • I think a committee would pick these matchups:

    Notre Dame vs. Georgia
    Alabama vs. Stanford

I think BCS standings would pick these matchups:
    Notre Dame vs. Oregon
    Alabama vs. Florida

Agreed. My picks were based on the computer.

  • Side Note--My preferred playoff method, a 12 team playoff featuring the six highest rated conference champions earning auto-bids, would look something like this:

A: LSU vs. Texas A&M--Winner Plays Notre Dame
B: Georgia vs. Boise State--Winner Plays Oregon
C: Kansas State vs. Florida State--Winner Plays Alabama
D: Stanford vs. Northern Illinois--Winner Plays Florida

Semifinals would feature Group A winner vs. Group B and Group C vs. Group D.

  • I agree wit this

College football playoff mock selection committee-Oregon, Florida in - NCAA Football - SI.com

During his 32 years in college athletics, Jim Livengood has hired and fired coaches, endured an NCAA investigation and served as chairman of the NCAA men's basketball selection committee. On Nov. 26, Sports Illustrated gathered Livengood, now UNLV's athletic director, and 10 of his colleagues to simulate the process that will select participants for the first four-team college football playoff following the 2014 season. Using this season's results, the committee selected a mock playoff field for the 2012 postseason.

The way I conceive of it, Stanford would be the 6 seed, so they would play the 11 seed, Northern Illinois. LSU and A&M would be the 8 and 9 seeds in my hypothetical scenario.

    A: 8. LSU vs. 9.Texas A&M--Winner Plays 1. Notre Dame
    B: 5. Georgia vs. 12. Boise State--Winner Plays 4. Oregon
    C: 7. Kansas State vs. 10. Florida State--Winner Plays 2. Alabama
    D: 6. Stanford vs. 11. Northern Illinois--Winner Plays 3. Florida

    in a real Top 4 ?

    1.ND vs 4.Oregon
    2.Bama vs 3. FL

  • The selection committee would have to give preference to conference champs which helps Stanford and k state and hurts oregon and florida.

Oregon lost conference and has weak schedule so theyre likely out.
Florida lost conference but schedule was ridiculously hard. Put them in. But Stanford is close
K state won conference and schedule wasnt spectacular. Working conference puts them in.

    Bama v. K state
    ND v. Florida

not to be harsh but imo .... the "selection committe" (should keep their head out of their arse) shouldnt give preference to anything other than the four best teams.
and that means ...reguardless of conference affiliation.

if we wanted conference consideration we would just watch the 2012 versions of the Rose & Orange Bowls blackeye

I agree to some extent. But you have to have some rules to dampen bias. I think oregon belongs but an objective look at sos and them not winning conference puts them out

While I think uga belongs ahead of teams like Wisconsin, they shouldn't go ahead of Florida.

K state would almost certainly get in. And likely stanford or florida.

in most every aspect of life, simple is more often than not "simply" better.
    rule one ...4 team playoff = 1 thru 4
rule two... #5 thru10 didnt finish in the top 4
    shrug

8 teams is the answer (the top 8)

    Crimson_Ghost

  • 8 might work this year but 99% of the time it's too many.

If you want to go by best four I would avoid a selection committee. If not, this season woukd be a nightmare for ten guys to pick a top 4.

    ReasonableDoubt

  • Honestly, I think the committee should only decide if playoffs are needed that year.

If there is a consensus top 2, just let them play. If not, add the next two bcs teams.

we totally agree .....avoid selection committee. it will be a FARCE.

the entire idea behind a "playoff" is ...
    1) increase $$$$$
    2) simplify the process

imo, we should tweak the computor programs on SOS & keep the BCS poll system.

can you imagine Lou Holtz on a Legands committee ? fingergun
