Would you say that Japanese culture is similar to the American culture? What are some similarities and differences?

Try starting with things like honor, values, morals, etc. Are these things relative or absolute?

It's fairly difficult to have this discussion when assuming basic cultural differences is the norm..

That has nothing to do with my point. My point was that he called out Hot Sauce for being "flat wrong." He was not flat wrong, he was entirely correct on the statistics about Japan.

    *  In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.  This doesn't include the 30 million 'Uncle Joe' starved to death in the Ukraine.

     *  In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

    *  Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, leaving a populace unable to defend itself against the Gestapo and SS.  Hundreds of thousands died as a result.

     * China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

    *  Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

    * Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. The total dead are said to be 2-3 million

     * Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, 1-2 million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

    *  Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million at a bare minimum.

    * Gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results:

Australia-wide, homicides went up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults went up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies went up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns.

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too.

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady DECREASE in armed robbery with firearms, that changed drastically upward in the first  year after gun confiscation...since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety  has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late.

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.

With Guns...........We Are "Citizens".  Without Them........We Are "Subjects".

During W.W.II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED.

Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard University 1919-1921 & was Naval Attaché to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor and our Army had been deprived of funding and was ill prepared to defend the country.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. and knew that almost all households had guns.

You know the biggest difference between their situations and yours, is that America will never become a country where political dissidents, in this case it seems your playing the victim card of "conservative" values as dissidents, that the big bad government is going to come and kill you. How about making a good case for why automatic weapons and assault rifles are there, besides the I'm afraid that the big bad government is going to kill me if I don't have them. A gun doesn't make you a citizen, maybe you need to read what it means to be a citizen. Also maybe you should read about WW2 and that Japan invaded Alaska, and failed miserably. Not only that, but Japan was stuck in the quagmire that is China, a war that not only started long before the US involvement, 1932, but was also the third of a string of wars of Japanese aggression. They unsuccessfully attempted to exterminate Chinese citizens, and as a result pulled themselves into a conflict that they could not finish if they attempted to invade the US, Learn your history before you spew inaccuracies like this.

    Elderpanda

  • Japan also lacked the fuel and resources to invade the US, look into why the Japanese invade the Dutch East Indies. They invaded for fuel that they could not produce from the Japanese mainland.

    I'm not sorry. It's interesting.

I'm not saying I believe all the conspiracies out there, but some have legitimacy to them. The Aurora one is well known.

And I find it extremely foolish to blindly believe the governments talking heads. Our current government of liberals are just a mafia. Control, power and sacrifice. Sacrifice of others, so to gain even more control.

    This crap isn't a coincidence.

  • Another thing to note about those who are afraid of gun control and Japan. Every year Japanese schools run drills where a police officer dresses as a assailant with a gun/knife and attacks a school building. The students and teachers are trained to react in these situations, something that can be introduced as well if people are so adamant in keeping assault weapons that don't get used for other than shooting bottles.

  • Also one last note to the OP, as an first generation Chinese American, I find it incredibly offensive, that this quote, "China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated." was used. Not only do you have no idea the political and social situation that occurred in China, nor the fact that it had nothing to do with weapons, after all China had just finished it's Civil War in 1950. You know, in a civil war, people kill each other.

Not theories. Well only related to Aurora. And there are many reasons for them.

It is interesting. I don't really what what to believe. Other than I will follow it closely and see how well they go together when more eventually comes out.

I'm betting that guy they have winds up dead though.

And no, I'm not gullible. I can believe anything that has believability with some coinciding facts.

And these conspiracy theories on Aurora are using facts to puzzle together the theories. So, it has me interested. I'm not sold on it. But I'm interested.
