A Little Gun History

    The vast majority?

    This isn't true, maybe in your area it is, but not all areas. I know more people who carry weapons and have concealed permits than people who do not. I have a handgun in my truck right now

    I am amazed at the "experts" who have hard stances on gun control but still don't even know what an assault rifle actually is. I bet more than half of these people think that the AR in AR15 stands for assault rifle.

    Armalite Rifle, I think that's how you spell it

    Where do you live and be honest??

    Pennsylvania. I grew up 5 mins from Reading which had the largest murders per capita in the late 90's. I have lived in the Philly area and Newport News. Now I live in State College.

    Did you expect that I would say the Hamptons?

    The vast majority of the US population does not have permits to carry. Just because you live in an area where it is the norm doesn't mean that it is the norm in our country.

    No I figured you would say the Northeast. Most anti-gun people are from that area. It's unbelievable how divided this country is

    How many guns do I own? How many guns did my father own while I was growing up.

    Guess?

    Who here is claiming to be an "expert?" Just a concerned American citizen...

    I wasn't talking about in here but it wouldn't surprise me if several in here had never heard of Armalite. I was mostly talking about people on tv and at work. I live in a very liberal place and even the small local papers are chiming in with their radical ideas on gun bans. I live on a small island where guns are not sold but crime is out of control and people are still getting shot and killed almost everyday.

    Food for thought

    In the 1980s and ’90s, as the concealed-carry movement gained steam, Americans were killed by others with guns at the rate of about 5.66 per 100,000 population. In this decade, the rate has fallen to just over 4.07 per 100,000, a 28 percent drop. The decline follows a fivefold increase in the number of “shall-issue” and unrestricted concealed-carry states from 1986 to 2006.

    The highest gun homicide rate is in Washington, D.C., which has had the nation’s strictest gun-control laws for years and bans concealed carry: 20.50 deaths per 100,000 population, five times the general rate. The lowest rate, 1.12, is in Utah, which has such a liberal concealed weapons policy that most American adults can get a permit to carry a gun in Utah without even visiting the state.

    The decline in gun homicides also comes as U.S. firearm sales are skyrocketing, according to federal background checks that are required for most gun sales. After holding stable at 8.5 to 9 million checks from 1999 to 2005, the FBI reported a surge to 10 million in 2006, 11 million in 2007, nearly 13 million in 2008 and more than 14 million last year, a 55 percent increase in just four years.

    You = 0 Dad = 3

    Me = 4
    Dad = 20-30

    Guns are important and I would never advocate that right being taken away from us. And that is not what I am doing.

    I'm saying that guns legal for the general public should be limited to rifles and shotguns only with no semi-auto, no extended clips and a length minimum.

    What about a semi-auto shotgun or rifle and they do have a minimum length in shotguns

    No, they should not be legal. The minimum length thing would be for idiots trying to make their own guns or modify legal ones.
