I don't think the B10 ever would agree to that. And I don't think they should. Texas should join the B10 under the same terms that PSU and Nebraska did. If they are not willing to do that, they should not join. It would be 180 degrees opposite of the current culture in the B10 for each team to be allowed to carve out special deals for themselves. Over time, such an approach would destroy the B10 the same way it has destroyed the B12.

Meh, I think all that is a bit premature. Unless we know the details of what would happen, i don't think we can say for sure that it would definitely work or definitely be a problem. I think it could work, depending on certain things.

i wonder what Dan Beebe is thinking right now...

If I were Beebe, I would be trying to cut a deal with the B10 or P12 that lets me keep LHN. If that doesn't work, I would be looking for a home for all of my other sports. I doubt UT alumni would be excited to see their basketball, baseball, swimming and other sports go to CUSA or the WAC. Would the Big East be willing to take UT's other sports the way they have with ND? Would another major conference? If not, it makes things much more complicated for UT to go independent.

The B10 has never been willing to allow a separate TV deal for ND. I don't see why it would do so for UT.

Even if they shared the revenue until the deal expired?

I know its good for the conference but I dont care. The SEC is already tough enough as it is. Now we have to add another team and its rumored to be FSU or VT. I DONT WANT IT ANY TOUGHER THAN IT ALREADY IS

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. I don't think the problem with ND is that we could not work out a transition until their TV deal expired. It is that they wanted special rights permanently, both in connection with TV and scheduling. The B10 has always refused that deal. I think they would handle UT the exact same way.

The bottom line is both ND and UT would make a fortune by joining the B10 on an equal basis with everyone else. The value of the BTN would skyrocket and our ABC/ESPN deals could be renegotiated massively upward. Would it be as much as they would make if we let them join but also gave them special deals for their own networks, etc. on the side? Probably not. But they would make out incredibly well as would all of the other teams in the B10.

Equality has never been good enough for ND and, apparently, is not be good enough for UT. The B10 has expanded several times and has never given special deals to anyone, even when pressed hard by ND. The B10 has been very successful (it makes the most money of any conference and owns 51% of a rapidly growing BTN). The "everyone is equal" model has worked very, very well and a departure from that model could destroy the conference over time just like it destroyed the B12. I just don't see why the B10 would take the risk.

I agree- ND and Texas can jump of a cliff if they expect to be treated differently than any other member. It is just their giant outsized ego's and power tripping going on. Our model works and there is no reason to deviate from it. I remember when ND initially got that NBC contract everyone was in awe. Now each member of the Big Ten has lapped them several times over revenue wise. As for that Texas network I think most in Big Ten land think it is a joke. We saw the the problems in the creation with our own network that had lights years more programming than the Texas channel and had the support of 11 schools behind it. Even in the Midwest it was a tough fight with the cable providers.

No, no, no, no, no and more no to Texas to the Big 10. I like this conference and don't want to see them ruin it. Go Independent and leave the schools actually trying to form a functioning conference alone.

I agree- we have a special thing going on. The fit has to be right. Texas is the perfect fit in all respects except for one- they dont want to be a team player. Everyone rows in the same direction in our conference and in almost complete harmony and tranquility.

Could or would Texas change in the Big Ten?

Sure the Big 12 has/had Oklahoma and Nebraska, and to an extent A&M, but who else?

I think Texas would tone down (for lack of a better phrase) in a conference with Michigan, OSU, Nebraska, PSU, and everyone else.

    Maybe not though.

Were you saying the same thing about Nebraska before they joined? They had not only voted against equal revenue sharing while in the Big 12, they also planned to start their own network.

Maybe Texas is the Dennis Rodman type. On their own they act foolishly and irresponsibly to those around them but if surrounded by a strong support structure they can funnel that energy in a positive direction. To the Texas posters- would the support structure of the Big Ten allow you to tone it down a bit?

That's the one billion dollar question. I am assuming that they will come to the table demanding the right to keep the LHN as part of any deal to join the B10. If, instead, they are willing to drop the idea of a separate network, then maybe. But I'm not holding my breath.

I thought part of the issue was that Dan Beebe didn't want to explore a Big 12 network, even then, we went to Aggie and asked them to start a "Lone-Star Network" and they refused, partly because they didn't think we could land the deal we did. And now we're here...

Nebraska has seen the light now in the Big Ten. How you guys organized that back then was stupid and foolish. It was each program looking out for themselves without looking at what is best for the larger collective. Our conference is like the mafia. We have been around since the dawn of time and we do not go away. If you get the call to get it, you accept. You are part of an exclusive club.

Then... Texas and Notre Dame (or Missouri pukeface) to the Big Ten?

Hearing that Texas has invited ND to join the B12. Looks like there won't be a B12 to join. ND will never join the B12. Texas most likely recourse is Independent, IMO.

This what you guys need to do to get the Big Ten invite. 1. Keep on rattling your sabres to scare Aggy to the SEC. We dont accept trash in the Big Ten and we dont take package deals if it involves an inferior school. 2. Drop the Texas network. ESPN only gave you that because they acted irrationally. The BTN scared them and they realized if the other leagues and pro sports for that matter followed the same lead then they would be out of business.
