I don't think the B10 ever would agree to that. And I don't think they should. Texas should join the B10 under the same terms that PSU and Nebraska did. If they are not willing to do that, they should not join. It would be 180 degrees opposite of the current culture in the B10 for each team to be allowed to carve out special deals for themselves. Over time, such an approach would destroy the B10 the same way it has destroyed the B12.

If I were Beebe, I would be trying to cut a deal with the B10 or P12 that lets me keep LHN. If that doesn't work, I would be looking for a home for all of my other sports. I doubt UT alumni would be excited to see their basketball, baseball, swimming and other sports go to CUSA or the WAC. Would the Big East be willing to take UT's other sports the way they have with ND? Would another major conference? If not, it makes things much more complicated for UT to go independent.

I guess I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. I don't think the problem with ND is that we could not work out a transition until their TV deal expired. It is that they wanted special rights permanently, both in connection with TV and scheduling. The B10 has always refused that deal. I think they would handle UT the exact same way.
The bottom line is both ND and UT would make a fortune by joining the BT on an equal basis with everyone else. The value of the BTN would skyrocket and our ABC/ESPN deals could be renegotiated massively upward. Would it be as much as they would make if we let them join but also gave them special deals for their own networks, etc. on the side? Probably not. But they would make out incredibly well as would all of the other teams in the B10.
Equality has never been good enough for ND and, apparently, is not be good enough for UT. The B10 has expanded several times and has never given special deals to anyone, even in the case of ND. The B10 has been very successful (it makes the most money of any conference and owns 51% of a rapidly growing BTN). The "everyone is equal" model has worked very, very well and a departure from that model could destroy the conference over time just like it destroyed the B12. I just don't see why the B10 would take the risk.

I agree- we have a special thing going on. The fit has to be right. Texas is the perfect fit in all respects except for one- they dont want to be a team player. Everyone rows in the same direction in our conference and in almost complete harmony and tranquility.

Could or would Texas change in the Big Ten?
Sure the Big 12 has/had Oklahoma and Nebraska, and to an extent A&M, but who else?
I think Texas would tone down (for lack of a better phrase) in a conference with Michigan, OSU, Nebraska, PSU, and everyone else.
Maybe not though.

Maybe Texas is the Dennis Rodman type. On their own they act foolishly and irresponsibly to those around them but if surrounded by a strong support structure they can funnel that energy in a positive direction. To the Texas posters- would the support structure of the Big Ten allow you to tone it down a bit?

I thought part of the issue was that Dan Beebe didn't want to explore a Big 12 network, even then, we went to Aggie and asked them to start a "Lone-Star Network" and they refused, partly because they didn't think we could land the deal we did. And now we're here...
