A huge Thank You to the 247Sports family -- 2 years together!

  • I reflect back to the week we launched 247Sports and all the excitement that surrounded our company’s entry into the digital college sports and recruiting space.

I was extremely apprehensive about pitching our startup to the sports media world. Whenever someone asked, my general response was … “we have 3 years of hell in front of us, so let’s keep things on the down low until we have something to shout about.”

Still, there was so much enthusiasm surrounding 247Sports. It doesn't take a 20-year media veteran to acknowledge that our industry was at an inflection point and publishers and users were extremely dissatisfied with the lack of innovation and customer service that had unfortunately become the accepted norm. For the first time in 15 years – our industry was no longer growing its member base.

Whether it was blind ambition, ignorance, a definite need or the sheer passion of our staff, we rolled up our sleeves and started building the infrastructure and core tenets of 247Sports.

As many know, this isn’t our first rodeo. We have 15+ years experience and are very proud of what we built at Rivals.com and the company we left for Yahoo! to manage. However, we knew that Rivals was only the tip of the iceberg of what we could accomplish with the right team and plan in place.

As we celebrate our two-year anniversary of 247Sports I have never been more excited about the future of our company and potential to build something special for sports fans around the world.

Everyday I celebrate the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented, competitive and loyal staff.

Guys like J.C. Shurburtt, Tony Morrell and Gerry Hamilton that took the chance and signed with us before we even launched … Ronnie Sanders that helped recruit many of the key partner sites in our first few months … Bobby Burton for signing on and forgoing other lucrative opportunities … Tim Watts for bringing over BamaOnLine, the largest college team site at the time … Lee Schear for bringing over the behemoth known as Bucknuts and his continued support as a key partner in the company ... Riley Bryant for building a technology platform well beyond anything I was capable of dreaming up and so many others over the past two years.

However, I would especially like to express my appreciation to 247Sports COO, Noah Stanley. Noah has been the backbone of the company and has served in every role possible during our startup. Noah’s insight and vision for 247Sports has been a vital resource for our entire staff, but his sheer competitive spirit has been a driving force behind our growth.

While it is important to take a step back, reflect and celebrate the past two years, it is all about moving forward. We've said it over and over, but we are just getting started and haven't scratched the surface of the product we are building. We have a tremendous passion for this business and will continue to work hard to give you guys the very best information, products and customer service in this industry.

Again, thank you to everyone that has supported 247Sports over the past two years. Your support means so much to us and is the driving force behind everything we do. Thank you!

    Shannon

  • One amazing fact about this site is I have seen almost every name you just mentioned corresponding with us common folk on the site. It says alot when any company has that type of involvment with its customers.

I believe the publishers of each site have been told to "own the message boards," Be there to answer questions. Which I think is fantastic!

  • I can't complain about anything you guys do, I think we have one of the best in the biz on our site with Jamie Oakes, now if we can just start winning on a consistant basis that site has the potential to go though the roof as well. Thanks for all the work you guys do at 247sports, it is the only recruiting site I will pay for.

Scott was hand picked for the start up FightOn247 site...which we all get to benefit from.

My only complaint(constructive criticisms), well I actually have two; the powers that be in Nashville need to cultivate more sites on the west coast. Go get a Cal site that is established like Bear Insider...Go get a UW site, like Dawgman on Scout...get someone dedicated to the bRuin site. The way it is set up currently is embarrassing to this network.(the bRuin site).

The other complaint...make your maintenance schedule later so folks on the west coast are not shut down at 10:00PM PST. Your IT guys can wait till 2:00AM PST.

No doubt. Definitely focused on building west coast. Oregon and USC sites have the potential to be great and the Colorado site was a great add. Working a few others right now. It is a focus, but much harder to put together than other regions.

  • Thank you to all of our users. Without you supporting us, giving us feedback & spreading the word about 247Sports, we would not be where we are today. It's not easy supporting the new kid on the block that may or may not make it (not an issue for us, but others have doubts), that doesn't currently have all the other posters you enjoy that other networks do and in some cases doesn't even have a site in your market yet. But, you did and still do ... and that's what drives us each day. Thank you.

We wouldn't be here without our users and hard working staff, but we definitely wouldn't be here without Shannon Terry. I know he threw me some props earlier so this may come off as reciprocating, but someone needs to give this man some appreciation.

Who starts up a network in an industry with long established leaders that has witnessed no growth in the 2+ years prior?

Who is able to convince people, that with our plan, we can change that trend, then gets them to leave promising opportunities to join us?

Who is the only CEO in the recruiting industry that regularly updates recruit profiles, posts on message boards and puts up his own white boards?

Well, you know the answer is Shannon Terry. The best part about it is, he's delivered. There's no luck in this for Shannon. He works his butt off more than anyone else, it's that simple ... and I'm lucky he continues to choose me to be on the team.

Thanks again everyone for hanging with us. We're not perfect, but we don't give up and we keep trying. Even if you're not a fan of us, at least we have pushed the other networks to pick up their efforts and continue to improve their product and coverage too. It's a win-win for the industry, which makes competing in this arena much more fulfilling and challenging.

Looking forward to seeing a couple of you in Vegas next week!

    Noah
