ACC TV deal?

  • ErnieMcCracken said...

Yeah- that is correct. The original deal was/is the problem Despite expansion and the "look ins" there is no way ESPN was going to deviate much from the first deal.

Exactly. The ACC couldn't open the contact up to competitive bidding. Their only resort would have been arbitration. Same thing will happen with the SEC.

  • This is the football contract right? I really haven't read...but the Basketball contract that the ACC will add will get them up to at least what the "football" conferences make. While BBall isn't even close to Football now it is worth mentioning, and with the NBA talking more and more about making kids stay in college for 2 years the college BBall product will be much better.

That said, if FSU and Clemson leave, VT better go to the SEC, and if those 3 leave, I'm guessing MD is taking it's lack of talents but big TV market to the B1G....then NCSt will be looking to go with VT and make a real complete Southeast Conference...that would get a massive TV deal.

but...if the ACC can get ND on board, I think everyone stays put, and everyone knows it, including ND

Except the SEC actually has competitors bidding unlike the ACC...

I may be mistaken, but I believe this is for all sports.

Yes... next year the likes of Vanderbilt and ole miss will be making more money than fsu. Let that sink in.

And Baylor and Tech will be making more than Alabama and LSU. Texas casts a long shadow, my little Aggy friend.

I understand what a binding legal contract is. You don't. But then again, you are a dolt.

Damn then I guess Mike slive was lying we he told us he would be negotiating this summer. Not cool!

  • So tier 3 rights in the ACC for Football are locked and open for BBall...so it favors UNC and Duke...I am thinking more and more that the ACC is about to hit the fan. That would piss the hell out of FSU, Clemson, Miami and VT...all but Miami have a place to go that is better

Are you really this dumb? You will renegotiate in the same manner that the ACC just negotiated with similar results.

    VaHorn

  • So we will be restructuring the deal for more money... which is exactly what the acc just did. Do you even know what your saying?

SEC is about to put a hurtin on ESPN so they got to go cheap somewhere. I honestly think SEC may make close to 40 mill a team.

    40 million? Ha ha, no.

The ACC has 12 teams, higher TV ratings than the Big 12, and a championship game. They are getting $15.8 per team for Tier I, II and III. The Big 12's new contract will pay $20 million for 10 teams for Tier I and Ii Add another 3-12 million for Tier III. If the Big 12 goes to 12 teams with a CG, it may be 26-30 million + Tier 3. The magic of competitive bidding. When the SEC contract comes in at 25 instead of 45 you will understand.

I agree that it will be closer to $25 than 40. But that is also per team for 14 teams. We also retain our 3rd tier rights and could activate a network at anytime.

  • ACC is the ACC. Outside of FSU, Miami, Clemson, and VT no one moves the meter in terms of football ratings. Not many people will tune in to watch a nooner between Wake and Pitt.

We are going to be doing a network... which will easily push that number over 40. You wont see these tsips around when that happens.

  • Here's my question for Status and the SEC folk: why does it seem like you only want one strong conference? I understand the desire to be the #1 conference, but I look at it as a good thing to have multiple strong conferences. Watching the rematch last year was boring as hell. I want to see 4 very strong teams, hopefully from 4 different conferences, competing for a title in the new playoff. The SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 are all going to get paid pretty well. I don't see this as a bad thing.

  • Its not that we want to be the best we just simply are the best. It comes natural.

We can't help that other conferences can't match the SEC from top to bottom. It would be better for the overall product of CFB, however, not our problem. It's up to everyone else to step up to our level.

Yeah- the SEC could for a brief second but long term you will not. You are stuck with your TV contract.
