ACC officially accepts Pitt/Syracuse!!

  • ACC also looking to add UCONN and Rutgers... Wow, here it goes! So what's next?

  • I don't want any of those four teams. They add no football value, which is where the money is at.

    This is awful.

You don't think it opens up the Northeast television market? Also opens up Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the ACC teams for recruiting. I agree that those teams are not going to bring much on the field to the ACC. Really going to be interesting to see how the B10/SEC/P12 and ND respond.

What's next is that WVU goes to the SEC, killing the Big East, which forces ND to join a conference (Big Ten). Who comes with them? Maybe Texas if they give up the LHN. If not, maybe Mizzou... maybe the Big Ten goes hard after MD or UVA... who knows. But I can't see ND staying independent if the Big East is destroyed.

agreed I for one am ready to see us join the B10. I think Texas ends up in the P12, would be great if they joined the B10. Would really open up the state of Texas to the B10 schools, bet Nebraska would benefit the most from this. seeing how they have all that experience recruiting Texas. Their fans might not like it, but they would benefit.

  • Why go after Rutgers? What can they possibly add? I'm guessing this is for the NYC market.

  • This is smart for the ACC. They were not going to get the WVU of the world, who are looking for bigger markets, i.e. the SEC. Syracuse and Pitt are excellent basketball schools, ok football schools, and add new markets. That is a win for the ACC. I am not sure what school those complaining would look at otherwise.

  • Pitt, Syracuse = two teams that have never done a thing of relevance in the Big East. Pitt struggles to put 30,000 in their stands on gameday, and Syracuse just isn't a football school. Plain and simple.

Rutgers, UCONN? This is where it gets weird. Both teams get terrible TV ratings, and are less than stellar on the field. The ACC is NOT improving their conference by adding these teams. Are they only going after markets, and that is it? Well that is fine and dandy, but nobody watches these teams. Syracuse isn't in a big market at all, and New York doesn't care about them. New York also doesn't give a damn about Rutgers. Pittsburgh is Steeler Country leaving Pitt to be the dog and pony show on Saturdays.

I'm glad WVU isn't going to the ACC, but these additions make no sense whatsoever from a competitive standpoint. Of course, we are talking about a conference that took Boston College.

Our TV contact is with ESPN. Markets don't matter since thats already a national network and their games are on every TV. What matters is ratings and you get those from on field match ups.

The ACC continues to make misstep after misstep.

No ACC school is leaving. $20 Million dollar buyout, and the SEC has their little gentleman's agreement that seems to be in effect.

For basketball, yes. Its obvious that the ACC is going all out on basketball(same thing the Big East did many years ago). Feel sorry for FSU and VT. Two football schools trapped in a basketball conference.

Well it's obvious there aren't many good football programs to add. Two pretty big markets ar brought in also.

I wouldnt care. They just added two more cupcakes to the bakery. They are going to run through their schedules. The only thing that would hurt them would be if they lost a BCS bid..doubt that will happen no matter how bad overall conference talent is.

Syracuse? A big market? What? More people in Pittsburgh care about WVU than Pitt. There is a reason they struggle to get 30,000 fans to their games. Nobody cares about them. They both suck on the football field, and have for a long while. Look, I'm glad WVU isn't going to the ACC. I hate that conference because they are basketball first. They also put academics above sports in a SPORTS conference, and that is why you expand with schools like Boston College. A lot of good that market is doing the ACC, BTW. About as good as the Pittsburgh market will do.

SEC does it right. A sports conference looks at the product on the field, and TV ratings. That is why they have won 6 straight national titles. That is why WVU fans want SEC and nothing to do with the ACC.

I agree to a certain extent because I think this is the best the ACC could do. I mean who else could they have added? At least this secures the conferences future.

  • Ha, the ACC is turning into a yankee conference, I can see a few heads in Virginia and the Carolinas explode.

    LMAO.

You have this backwards my friend. WVU would have accepted an invite to the ACC without thinking twice. ACC however would never invite a school who takes all their standard test in crayons... ACC is a prestigious academic conference.

Also anybody who doesn't think this is a solid move by the ACC is ignorant. Are they dominant college football schools? No... but once upon a time, Pitt absolutely was. They have the most national titles now in the ACC with 6. Syracuse hasn't been relevant since Mcnabb. However, both are good enough to go bowling every single year. So they added two schools who will make bowl games and will likely be top 3 seeds in basketball making the ACC easily the best conference.

    Yup
