A/P POLL

  • Ichabod said...

Need to develop more of a passing game but yes, they have a star RB and a good defense

But it was week 1. Lots to be played

Week 1 is why polls are irrelevant...we really don't know much about any team at this point

Bama just skullfvcked Michigan, but how good is Michigan...that was the only marquee game this past week and Bama did their part

other than that I wouldn't say any team proved their mettle thus far...it's so early in the season

Week 6 is where we can start really discussing who's the best teams IMO

I think our D will get better, had 2 senior DTs out for the game and will get one of them back for KState, the middle of our line will get better.

As of right now, WVU would kick our ass...good thing we play later in the season b/c I think we will get much better in the 2nd half.

I mean they pitched a shutout. Only score was off a blocked punt. Your offense was of concern especially with a 3 year starter at QB

I think everyone outside of Ann Arbor knew that Michigan was overrated. But I agree with the posters saying that their are 4 elite teams at this moment in LSU, Bama, USC, and Oregon. More could emerge as the season goes and 1 of those 4 could fall, especially if McCarron, Barkely, or Mettenberg gets hurt

    he's a 4 yr starter and a 5th year player...the dude's mental game is missing something

the only thing I was encouraged about was his scrambling ability and moving around the pocket but he has to know when to throw it away at this point, 2 sacks we gave up were because he ran to the DE instead of stepping up in the pocket and making the throw

Truth be told I like our D, but UTEP did miss 3 FGs so we got lucky to pitch the shutout

A lot of mistakes we made are easily cleaned up and I expect a better showing the next 2 games...after Texas I'll make a proper judgment about this team. Until then I still expect a 10-2 season

well if McCarron gets hurt, I still think Bama will stay up there...they have so much talent everywhere else and they really only need a game manager at QB

if Barkley goes down, USC is barely a top 10 team

I would still like to see more from LSU at this point but they look damn good and dangerous on D, upgraded at QB this year definitely

Oregon's offense is prob the best in the country but they haven't been tested on D yet, USC-Oregon game is going to be huge

The problem is even with a game manager, you still need him to make some throws. Ely doesn't have the experience to step into an SEC game and guide us to a win

it can be seen as his 3rd full season...he took over for Sam Bradford in 2009 after the injuries Sam had but Landry started most the games that year

he still makes freshman mistakes and he doesn't trust his OL or WRs which is alarming

I'd like to see him get rid of the ball faster as a player with his experience should...yes our OL have had our share of problems but they played pretty well and gave him plenty of time to throw on most players, he needed to get rid of it faster

your D will keep you in every game and your running game is really solid that I'd imagine they could plug him in and make 10-15 throws a game just to keep the defense honest

not sure what kind of passer he is but he's playing for Bama so he's got to have some talent that Saban saw in him

It's just odd. I think he is a really good QB, but ever since Ryan Broyles got hurt, he just hasn't been sure of himself. I thought the offseason would do him good and it still might. It's not like he was awful Saturday. He just wasn't clicking with the offense.

Before Broyles got hurt (2011 only) he was:

    254-386 65.8% 3,349/372.1ypg 26tds-9ints

Since his injury and the first game of 2012:

    122-212 57.5% 1,336/267.2ypg 3tds-6ints

Obviously, minus the interceptions, the numbers aren't bad, but I think OU needs more from him with the way they run their offense.

Throw Mariota/Thomas/Barner in that mix as well. Oregon is extremely thin at RB, and Bennett just looks like hell right now if Mariota were to go down.

honestly, Sooner Nation is flabbergasted...he still makes freshman mistakes and he still gets happy feet

he's a good player, just not a great player and we are running an offense (no huddle, pistol) that doesn't suit his skill set

he would be better in a pro set b/c he's just not that mobile a QB...next year with Bell at the helm, the no huddle and our other sets becomes more dangerous b/c a legitimate thread of our QB running the ball

our passing will decline a bit but I think a lot of QBs would thrive in our offense and that's where Landry's stats really come from...he looks great on paper but when you watch him live you can tell something's just missing

he looks scared out there, and that's the hard part to watch...you don't want a 5th year Senior QB in his 4th year of starting to be afraid...it was only one game this year but he has a lot of growth to make and he needs to start trusting his OL and WRs, step up in the pocket and not run to the weak side DE for a sack, throw the ball away when necessary and get rid of the ball faster. things you would expect from a guy in his position and with his experience

by Texas, this team could be really good and gain some solid momentum going into the 2nd half of the season but they have to play better football

I think they could get by without Mariota (would make USC even tougher though).

I would definitely put Barner in that mix though. If he was to go down, they don't have another back that has any success. The Fr and So more threw out there in the 2nd half looked awful. I think Thomas would be impossible to replace, but Barner is the key, IMO. Barner gives them a chance. No way Thomas can be that 20-25 carries a game guy in big games.

really any team currently in the top 10 should stay where they are at if they win. I dont care an ugly win is still a win it doesnt matter. If South Carolina is not a top 10 team our schedule will expose us. Just because your team beats the crap out of a cupcake doesnt make you a top 10 team.

People who believe this, should in no way be voters. How anyone can believe that pre-season guesses should take more precedence than what actually happens on the field is outside the realm of rational thought.

Stoops would never pull Landry. It just won't ever happen, would lead to some team issues and he wants no part of it. Landry will be our QB til he graduates this year.

Blake Bell is a really solid QB, just inexperienced. He's 6'6" 260 and has really good mobility and speed but he's only being used in the 3rd/4th and short situations to pick up a first down. He only threw the ball once last year and it was an INT inside the 5 yd line. He can throw the ball well from all we hear in practice but yet to see it in a game.

Last year in the bowl game, Bell was the MVP and Stoops chastised everyone for not giving it to Landry. I personally don't understand it because to me Landry just isn't the guy to get it done in the clutch. I'm not saying Bell is but I know that Bell sure as hell has more fire to him and I believe him to be someone we will count on in the future when the chips are down.

Landry is just what you see what you get from him. Solid passer but missing quite a bit between the ears. He gets rattled easy and still makes terrible decisions in the pocket from a 5th year senior QB with as much experience as he has. He still has bad pocket presence and gets happy feet, running to the DEs on the weak side.

Landry is good enough to get us 10 wins this year, beyond that I don't have much faith in him. He will go out as the winningest QB in our history, he will be the best statistical QB in our history but honestly he is a product of a system and so many other QBs in his situation would have done the same. He will hold a clipboard in the NFL for a few years, then when it's time to play he will show he's not ready. It's his mental game and you can't coach that, you either have it or you don't.

Now, I will say he leads us to a victory over you :D
