Why shouldn't they? NDs SOS is better than both OU and KSU right now. Their defense hasn't given up 51 points in any 4 contests combined. They beat both Miami & Oklahoma, mutual opponents with KSU, more decidedly than the Wildcats.
ND should be no. 1

Actually, KSU beat Miami worse than ND did. Not sure what that matters, but OK.
KSU has also had their way with every opponent besides @Oklahoma and @Iowa State.
Notre Dame had to hope the Pitt kicker missed a short field goal, and struggled with a Boston College team that is embarrassingly bad. Also, Most believe Stanford got screwed. ND beat a terrible Purdue team by 3.
I give them credit that they are undefeated. There is no way in hell they should be ranked ahead of Oregon or KSU at the moment, though.

That wasn't just me. A lot of people believe that, and still do. A lot of people find it interesting that a perennial 6 and 7 win team in the big 12 is doing well in the almighty SEC right now.
But again, this discussion has absolutely nothing to do with WVU or A&M, so I'm not sure why you even brought it up. We are talking about the Championship game, and who deserves to be #1. I'm waiting for the guy that said ND deserves to be #1 argues my facts that I just threw at him.

ND beat a terrible Purdue team by 3. Also, going into Saturday, ND was ranked 28th in SOS, and KSU was 29th. KSU most likely will jump ND in SOS after beating a 6-3 TCU team while ND played lowly Boston College.
