Adderall Prescriptions

  • Does anyone else take adderall on a regular basis. How does it affect you long term. I'm recently graduated and have joined the work force full time. I've also started taking my adderall every day. I feel like I'm becoming slightly dependent on it, and am thinking about cutting it back. Whenever I debate if I should take my adderall or not, I end up reasoning myself to take it. Like right before I decided to post this, I decided to take my adderall. Now I'm typing this long ass post from my iPhone in the office.

    Thoughts anybody?

  • I am 38 and just started taking it in the past year. It really helps me focus and stay on task. I can definitely tell when I don't take it; I don't have energy, my focus is not there and I am not nearly as motivated to do everything I have to do. I am a full time paid fire fighter as well as I own a medical education business and I have five kids, so I really do rely on it to keep me going. Especially after nights at the fire station where I get zero sleep. Which in N Birmingham is quite often!!!

If you feel jacked up on it, you are probably taking too high of a dose. I do know some people who took higher doses and if they didn't take it the next day they always felt irritable and depressed. That doesn't happen to me, or if it does I don't notice it. I have a script for 30mg extended release and 10mg immediate release for late in the day.

Hope this helps and Roll Tide!

  • Don't see a point to take it after college. The goal is to try and do less work. Try coffee as a substitute.

  • But, on the real, all amphetamines like Concerta, Adderall, and Ritalin are highly addictive because they're super-effective and super-functional stimulants. Do not get in the habit of taking more than your recommended dosage, you will start to form some dependency.

These drugs will make you feel more focused in the short term, but they also overexcite your neurons, which can diminish your brain's overall function over time. Adderall can constrict blood vessels. If your dosage ever gets too high, vessels can be damaged, and this can effect sexual function. I'd also keep close tabs on your interpersonal relationships. People taking stimulants tend to be less outwardly expressive of their emotions, which can put a strain on a their relations. Additionally, make sure to work out. Adderall and other stimulants can lead to muscle weakness and loss of endurance, which will make you feel tired and less focused.

lol....no they're not dude. Adderal has amphetamine salts in it (which is what gets you "up"), Thats about the only thing chemically similar to crystal meth. it is in no way "similar" to crsytal meth.

You think doc's would prescribe shit with battery acid, draino and kerosene in it? Come on dude

See post that's prefaced "on the real," not when we were trolling about bath salts and meth.

And yes it is similar to meth. The only difference is that methamphetamine has a methyl group (-CH3) attached to an identical alpha carbon found in Adderall (this is assuming that the crystal meth and Adderall are pharm grade). Adderall lacks this methyl group.

  • I use to take it but got off a few years ago.

I have ADHD so I didn't speed off of it, it mellowed me out.

I quit taking it because I could hardly eat, made my penis smaller and loss of sex drive. This was my jr/sr year of HS and start of college.

    Couldn't sleep either.

So I like my food, sleep and sex to much and I got off it.

I ended up taking Xanax and smoking bud all the time bc I became dependent on adderal and needed something else.

I'm clean now for the most part but for a few years, adderal really screwed me up

Right. Adderrall is amphetamine. It's not methamphetamine, but it's certainly not a vitamin c pill. It's so hillarious how people assume anything that comes from the pharmacy is "medicine" and a good idea.

It's almost as good as the people who think they have "ADD" and thus their brains are different then other brains and "ADD medication" does things different to their brains as people without "ADD".

This. The fact that you can't sit at your desk and be 100% focused on some menial task is normal. You don't need meds.

Yep, sounds very similar to my experiences. I imagine like me, you now treat your "ADD" by a medication-free process known to laymen as "manning up".

Same here. I used to take meds for it, but haven't for sometime. Adderal was harsh, and kind of like starting out in a rocket sled, and then you just fell off a cliff when it wore off. However, regardless of when I took it and when it wore off, still had trouble sleeping.

Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine is brand name) was completely different. Extremely effective, with a smooth but noticable onset. wore off gradually, without just leaving you feeling drained. I could take it at 7:00 at night, and be sound asleep by midnight. In comparison to Adderal, it just seemed to be world's cleaner. Any of you guys on Adderal now, I'd really recommend switching and giving it a try.
