Adding FSU and Clemson not expected to increase revenue

  • The new Big 12 TV deal is expected to be announced any day, perhaps here this week as a celebration of the league's new-found strength. Within that deal is a clause that will give any new expansion candidates the same money as the current members (estimated to be at least $20 million per year). One industry source said that number applies whether the Big 12 invites, "Appalachian State or Florida State." And according to another industry source, ESPN wouldn't stand in the way of Big 12 expansion even after negotiating a new deal with the ACC.

    ----——-------------

Ouch. One has to ask whether all that increased travel is really worth a few extra bucks.

Big 12's born again -- and feeling its oats sitting at 10, 12 or 14 - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and BCS Rankings

After Texas A&M and Missouri bolted and Texas and Oklahoma eyed the Pac-12, the Big 12 was on the ropes. But as the league meets, Dennis Dodd says it has re-emerged as a power player with big cards still to play.

Yes it was pretty sad for you to hear that Appalachian state = Florida state wasn't it?

Thought it was hilarious to hear all these 28 million figures being thrown out if FSU came when in reality that number isn't going up at all. Does FSU even know this?

Its literally impossible for the figure not to go up because of the CCG. I didnt read the article because i find cbssports humorous, but its not possible for the figure to stay the same while adding a CCG.

I was thinking the same thing. Already riding the coattails of the SEC before they even play a game.

You may want to check out The Big Spur, you will have a lot in common with some of those folks.

Of course they don't know that because they don't subscribe to your retarded way of thinking.

If the BIg12 adds FSU and Clem of course the TV money will stay the same that makes perfect sense SMH

Are you sure that your not just bitter that reports are A&M and mizzou does nothing to make CBS want to add revenue to the SEC, and like many have said all along that the SEC is already watched in Texas so A&M and Mizzou really do not bring jack shit to the table. Did you think everyone was kidding when they said this?

First of all if you read the article carefully there is an "at least" in front of the 20 million. Secondly this number does not include a championship game which would happen if the Big 12 expanded. Thirdly I am sure that the powers that be at FSU know a lot more than us on the outside do regarding actual numbers and will weigh it carefully when deciding whether or not to leave the ACC.
I am still curious why you seem so obsessed with this whole thing considering you have no dog in this race.

  • Did not read. If unlocking a conference championship game and adding two teams in totally unique markets for the conference doesn't raise the contract then I am Princess Diana raised from the grave.

The above agreement basically says that ESPN/FOX agree to add enough money to the pot so that whatever teams the B12 adds no one gets diluted. So assuming the B12 adds two teams, instead of paying the B12 $200 million per year they will pay $240 million per year. $20 million is actually a very large number (ND earns $15 million per year under its NBC deal). Few available teams probably add $20 million to the TV revenue of any conference and the idea that FSU will need to come with a partner means the two teams together will need to add $40 million. Whatever "extra" value FSU brings is offset by what Louisville brings, so unless the second team is ND I'm guessing this is a pretty good deal for the B12.

A CCG would add about $20 million total, or less than $2 million per school. I would expect that to be in addition to the above deal.

  • Or the TV contract was overvalued to begin with (it was) and adding more teams is just bringing it into equality

  • Why are you so hung up on Louisville? They are a joke and havent been talked abiut in months.

    CCG
    Brand new markets
    Great matchups

By adding Clemson and FSU the payout per team will increase. How much? Who knows.

From everything I've read, Louisville is very high on the B12's list. Now, if they can get both FSU and Clemson would they take them instead? Maybe. Probably. But that is a big IF. So let's just call it 2 out of the 3 of FSU, Clemson and Louisville. I think the ACC will fight tooth and nail to not lose both FSU and Clemson and in the end the B12 will have to go with Louisville as the #12. But what do I know?

Those schools are before Louisville. Louisville is pretty far down the list and really needs to hope for 16 to have a chance.

    Ok. Well ...

    1. ND - ND is a fool's errand. The B10 went through it. The Big East went through it. The ACC sort of went through it. Now the B12 is going through it. It ain't gonna happen.
    2. Pitt - hey, knock yourselves out.
    3. GT - Sorry, just don't see it. And I'm not sure why they would be better than Louisville anyway. At least you get basketball with Louisville. But take GT then (see #2).
    4. Maryland - Maybe. Better than GT in my opinion and maybe better than Louisville (tell me which FB program will do better over the next 30 years and I will tell you which school you should add)
    5. Miami - Again, maybe, but you are not adding another state to the footprint if you take both FSU and Miami. Also, Miami seems to be the least interested in moving conferences for athletic reasons these days. But, ok, if you want Miami instead of Louisville maybe this is a possibility. Of course, the B12 was deep in discussions with Louisville when they added #9 and #10 but had virtually no discussions with Miami, so for Miami to jump over Louisville something must have changed in the B12's thinking. Maybe it has. Idk.

If the champions only model of playoff is what they go with ND will be forced to join a conference and that would be the Big12. There really is no other choice unless they suddenly become ok with putting aside heir beliefs and join the big10.

FSU and ND added to the BIG12 is a homerun whoever you added after that is icing. Those are the top 2 targets for the big12 with ND being #1
