Are you really saying, "screw you and your 30 years of polling numbers?"

About 4/10 Americans, including the majority of presidential nominees from the republican party, think the earth is less than 10,000 years old.

It's not just crazy WBC/baptist stuff. This is the consensus christian opinion in America.

I forgot this is the blue board where the non-religious know more about religions than those who practice them. Again I have never heard of the World being 10,000 years old. And polls are wrong all the time. You are just trying to make Christians look bad. And btw no where in the Bible does it say the world is only x number of years old/

The old problem, "what evidence can you show someone who doesn't value evidence?"

huh You do realize that your personal experience is not shared by every Christian in America? Just because you've never heard of the idea that the earth is only 10,000 years old doesn't mean that it isn't out there, and prevalent.

You are trying to apply beliefs to me, as a Christian, that I do not have and then you want to act like I am somehow the one being ridiculous.

    Analogous lines of thought:

I never heard of Mitt Romney, so obviously he didn't run for president.

I never heard of of global warming, so obviously it doesn't exist.

I never heard of abortion, so obviously it doesn't happen.

I'm not telling you what you think. I don't know, nor do I particularly care what you think.

I'm telling you that the majority of your religion's followers think the earth is 10,000 years old, and that you are the exception, not the rule.

I never heard of anything good Obama ever did, so obviously it never happened.

Southern Baptist is one of, if not the largest protestant denomination in country. A belief like that likely wouldn't differ from church to church, that's a pretty serious claim to make.

Maybe others would think that, but the idea it's mainstream seems doubtful.

    Sorry, not buying it.

LOL. You think the only place I get my religious info from is just my church? You are just wrong.

He is making a pretty good living telling gullible people what they want to hear. There are web sites that go into detail about how his arguments are flawed and contrived. He is in no way the unbiased truth seeker he portrays himself to be in his writing. It is all a facade.

Are you saying only gullible people believe in creation?
Does it not concern you that scientists have to keep changing what they believe about evolution to be true when problems in their theory arise.

I feel much more secure with life when I believe in something that doesn't change. I mean, putting your trust in evolution and having the theory change every few years has to give people ulcers.

It would concern me is scientists DIDN'T change the theory of evolution when the data merits tweaking it.

However, I would like you to describe some of the recent changes to the theory of evolution, if you could. Since these concern you, I would assume you know some of these changes.

EDIT: By the way, what you feel 'secure' with has nothing to do with what is true or not. That should be your primary concern.

Hi everyone. I'd like you introduce you to TroyTide.

His beliefs perfectly represent the core of christianity. So if every other christian thinks one thing, and TroyTide thinks another, TroyTide is right. And this makes perfect sense. Any other data, no matter how overwhelming, can be (and must be) wrong.

    Okay, move along now.

Again, just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean other Southern Baptists haven't heard of it or believe in it. I don't think you really understand that people can identify with the same faith but have slightly different beliefs without causing a complete schism.

There's a pretty even split among protestants as to whether the Earth is 6,000 years old.

Survey: U.S. Protestant pastors reject evolution, split on Earth's age

By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor America’s Protestant pastors overwhelmingly reject the theory of evolution and are evenly split on whether the earth is 6,000 years old, according to a survey released Monday by the Southern Baptist Convention.

Look I have never meet a single person in my entire life that thinks that, Christian or non-Christian, not one. Since I live in the heart of the Bible belt and the most Christian dominated region of the country, with scores of denominations, seems that I would have heard of this.

Just texted my old youth minister, who I talk to regularly, asked him if he had ever heard of this either and his response was "Lol. No."

Texted a Methodist friend of mine and will let you know his response. This crap just isn't true. It's just an attempt to make people of faith look stupid.

I know some Catholics in DC too from my UA days, may ask them, but I don't know how seriously they practice, so it may not lead to anything. Will ask anyway when I get the chance.

Frankly it all sounds made up.

You underrate the stupidity of the average American.

This is a country that struggles to find Iraq on a Map.

If i linked a Gallup poll that proves that the majority of Christians think the world is 10,000 years old.

    Would you:..

    A. Man up and recant your naïveté on this issue

    Or...

    B. pull a "Troytide" and say I didn't read that in my Christianity 101 class, my personal experiences supersede statitical facts, and the Gallup poll is just another Pro-Obama conspiracy to kill white people.

Hint... You would be stupid to pick B... Troytide picks B for Christs Sake.

Southern Baptists may be protestant but they are a miniscule fraction of protestantism. And this is a poll of pastors not protestants.

huh Southern Baptists are the largest Protestant denomination in the US, with over 16 million members.

Given that Protestants make up ~48% of the US population, and the US population is ~313 million, that's about 150 million protestants. Southern Baptists make up over 10% of Protestants. That's not a "minuscule fraction."

Granted, I should have specified "Protestant pastors" there, but the point of the article stands - the earth being 6,000 years old is not a radical idea that people are parroting around to make religious people look stupid.

Because I'm in deep denial does not mean I'm naive.

That said, I did just learn that only 28% of Americans have a college degree... I had no idea it was that low. Explains a lot.
