Aikman Speaks out on NFL's future

  • BamaShack said...

    Yea it was.

Can't ever take it away from him.

Sure rules were different. So what. He still had to do it.

    The game evolves.

By evolves in this case you mean it got much easier for QBs to put up ridiculous numbers through the air. Hell, DBs basically can't touch the WRs anymore.

    Ok. Adapt.

At the end of the day what won the SuperBowl?

    Oh please. Aikman said

"“At one time, watching football was an event,” Aikman said. “Monday Night Football was a big event. Now you get football Sunday, you get it Monday, you get it Thursday and, late in the year, you get it on Saturday."

I have never heard anyone complain that there is too much football on.

Pretty much agree. What he fails to understand, MNF was a phenomenon that required great talent from the top to run it. Roone Arledge was a genius, and he had a nack for filling the booth with complete broadcast legends before anyone knew they were legends. The show was succesfull at stretching outside of football with interviews with John Lennon, and it also was great at reflecting back on the weekend games. Then MNF became a complete corporate franchise where they had fans guessing who would be next in the booth and would put clowns like Dennis Miller in the booth, and for a while even had us worrying Rush Limbaugh would be in there. MNF will never get to that level of the 70's to the mid 90's again after the jack asses at ABC lost the way. It was a great run but those days are over.

Football is the nation's #1 sport. I don't see that changing as much as he thinks it might. If there is a football game, up against any other sport, it's going to win in the ratings.

Every super bowl for the last three years has had the largest audience ever for TV. The show is the biggest event on TV.

    The Giants.

If you're looking for "passing" or something to that effect when many are claiming that this is a result of shoddy new rules, that doesn't really hold water IMO.

what star quality did Brady have when he got to the league as a 7th round pick?

    or Rodgers for that matter

The Pack and Pats had franchise qbs.

How much longer do cowboy fans wait to find out that Romo wont be as good as a Manning/Brady?

    Sanchez?

    Matt Ryan?

    Vick?

    Stafford?

    Cassel?

    Tebow?

    Rivers?

This is just my opinion. If youre watching on Sundays and being blown away by 7-8 qbs, then more power to you. I guess Im missing those gms.

Cam Newton was awesome this yr, and if he wins, it will do the NFL a great service.

Both teams came in just under 400 yards total offense. I know the NFL is different than CFB when it comes to offensive stats, but in no way did I see the game as a "defensive struggle."

It was no a struggle. It was a perfect ball game.

But at the end of the day the GMen's defense got the there and won a ring.

The old saying is still as true today as it was 40 yrs ago. Defense wins Championships.

But see, the GMen's D didn't make Welker drop that pass. Same with Hernandez. I'm not saying they were easy grabs but when you're getting paid millions they should be gimmes. I have no dog in the fight (Falcon's fan... kill me now) I'm just saying how I saw it.

Oh there is no doubt welkers drop cost Brady his 4th ring.

But the Giants also held one of the best offenses in the league and a top 5 qb of all time to 17 points.

That o isn't the same without the Jersey Shore reject at full strength. Plus they dropped EVERYTHING thrown their way.

    Of course you don't

    Most don't

But lots of us do and i know Aikman isn't the only ex-player

Football or the NFL is in its rise, soon will come the fall and its gonna be ugly imo

Concussions are just the start and you are gonna be shocked once you start to learn where we are headed

When The NFL gets its " Ali " case ( an explayer drooling all over himself cause of the game ) america will freak out and the game of football in america will never be the same

    We are headed there anyways

Oh and Wilbon and Tony K agreed with Aikman as well today in response to this article

    Both tools.

We've had plenty of examples from past NFL greats.

John Mackey, greatest TE of all time, died a miserable death from long time brain damage caused from his career.

Mike Webster ( greatest center of all time) killed himself and doctors said his depression was caused by long term concussions sustained during his HOF career.

The list is long. That's why Goddell is doing what he is doing. He is looking after the league.
