Al Golden to Tennessee is heating up in Knoxville....

  • The Vols have received word only a number of conspiracy theorists believe isnt true that Gruden is most likely signing with the Eagles. Many think that Strong is re-signing. Golden is apparently #3 for them and then they may go after Butch Jones of Cincinnati. Of course rumors are flying because the yocals are going nuts.

They either dont want to miss if they should or think Golden is elite because apparently its going to be an offer above 3/yr (like 3.2)

I agree. I said it on here during the year, in a vacuum he's better than Jimbo IMO.

So you are saying Golden is going to leave Miami for Tennessee but Strong is staying at Louisville?

AG should have just not turned down the Tenn job a few years back and saved himself a lot of trouble.

Golden wasn't aware of sanctions at that point I wouldn't believe.

The Tennessee job back then was what Miami is now.

  • Tennessee has talent. They just didn't play hard for an average coach. They need upgrades in the secondary somehow but their offense will still be sick next year.

They return 6 seniors on the DL as well. Golden could keep OC Jim Chaney and most of the offensive staff and just overhaul the defense. He'd leave D'Onofrio in Miami though.

Taking over a depleted Randy Shannon roster is worse than anything the NCAA can do IMO.

  • Honestly I could see why Tennessee would be appealing great facilities a roster with sufficient talent, and a pay raise as well as a chance to compete in the Sec, but then again we have a lot of returning talent on offense as well and compete in conference which is much easier to win I also believe Recruiting Miami is much easier than recruiting Tennessee don't think he will leave but you never know.

No sanction talk. No Donna Shalala. No 3 AD's in 2 years. Endless funds to hire any staff. 100k strong on Saturdays.

The only reason he stays at Miami is because he is a man of his word & the ridiculous young talent. I'm nervous.

Don't be nervous dude... No ocean and no city. Momma not hearin that. He's an east coast guy and drawing him out would take more than that...

This^^ Good analysis. I personally don't wish any ill harm to the Canes in all of this. Ya'll have been through enough. Golden is a hell of a football coach.

Yup I agree I would say the only reason Al Golden is still at Miami is one recruiting oppurtunitites, two the young players currently on the roster, and three loyalty. No matter how loyal Al seems you never really know with coaches hopefully he stays I believe he will seems like he really loves it here.

Judge him when the talent level on the two teams is comparable.

  • Since we're on the topic of Tennessee football coach, The Times Free Press launched an article not too long ago saying that Gruden has offered a counter offer to Tennessee. Only hang up with them being staff options. TIFWIW. Patrick Brown was the reporter.

It has since been taken down, but twitter and our home board are still buzzing about it.

I think everyone thought the talks were over because he was asking for too much (more than what Saban makes this coming year). Who knows at this point, it has been insane.

I heard that the owner of the Browns was offering him a piece of the Browns to become the HC at UT. Sounded odd to me because you would think that Haslem would want him as coach at the Browns, but that was what was being reported.

I guess it would be tough to give a coach that works for you a piece of the pie, but not so much if he's coaching at your alma mater.
