  • Most kids make it pretty clear where they want to end up -or think they want to end up...but they should have the opportunity to go out there and see the rest of the country. We've had kids commit, and our coaches encourage them to go out and see other universities. Just to be sure.

Recruiting and Inviting kids you know you'll NEVER get does have it's perks, for the university and the player...case in point, a kid who committed elsewhere, had no intention of picking USC, but loved his visit. These kids talk, and he told his network of friends/fellow players how much he loved the visit. That can and does, help with another kid who is not opposed to travel across the country to play football.

Visits will only strengthen their commitment, or he was never meant to be yours anyway.

Should I link what the word commitment means? If you're not fully committed, don't commit, it's as simple as that. Kids should enjoy the process, we all agree on that, but they can do that without committing. Your word commitment should mean something, if you say you commit to a school then that should be it.

I understand that from the perspective of the kid but you have to understand where the schools are coming from as well. The no visit policy is a way to make sure a kid doesn't commit before he is sure. You don't want to have 4 or 5 kids commit who aren't really sure and end up decommitting late in the process which could leave the school screwed. If the kid isn't sure and wants to take visits then don't commit.

  • While I agree with the general view of not committing unless you are sure, it really is unrealistic in today's recruiting. With kids committing earlier and coaches telling recruits that spaces are limited and are filling up quickly most kids do not have the luxury of waiting to take all visits and make a rational, well informed decision.

That's on the kids though. Stop committing early and they could all take their visits.

Like the commitment a new coaching staff makes to honor a scholarship to a player that doesn't fit their plan? Like the commitment a coach gives a player to remain his coach the entire playing career at a university? The fact remains, CFB has become a dirty business..and the adults aren't leading by example. It's become just like professional sports, minus paying the players that generate so much revenue for a university.

These are kids vs grown men. I wouldn't let my son commit till LOI, but that's just me...most of these kids don't come from ideal situations, or ideal family environments.

And what makes you feel that he will visit?

Also, if you visit another school, then Michigan no longer considers you committed. They will start pursuing other options.

Did I say he will visit.... said if, cause it has been stated any kid that visits another school who is committed is removed

Well, these coaches are giving their commitment. Only right that the kids are also if the say they are. If the kids start visiting elsewhere, the coaches are looking elsewhere.

If a man is sticking it in another woman, only right that the woman looks elsewhere.

That shouldn't really matter, yes I understand that the recruiting game is getting earlier and earlier but the fact is a commitment is a commitment. If I make a commitment, my word should mean something.

You're using a straw man argument, and grasping at any weak argument you can.

You're drowning, and the life jacket isn't anywhere near by.

Do what you wish with your recruits, I just think it's tiny balls to threaten anyone to not take their allotted visits just to be absolutely sure.

  • Some kids commit early cause they see others do so and want to join in.... Also coaches do at times influence a kid to commit early when they are not. Can't blame kids or coaches for early commits. It happens.... also these kids have earned that right to take visit regardless of being committed... just the way it is....

Right. If these college coaches are able to leave at the drop of a dime if a better situation presents itself, then recruits should as well.

How is it a threat if the kid knows before he commits that he is not allowed to take visits? Basically, when the kid commits he is agreeing that he will not take visits to other schools. If the recruit is not cool with that then don't commit.
