My wife and I had an amazing time on our road trip to Tuscaloosa. We left Houston on Wednesday night and stayed in Lafayette. Thursday we stopped in New Orleans to see the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. Thursday evening we pulled into Birmingham, where we stayed Thursday and Friday night. Friday morning we got up and went to the Birmingham Zoo, one of the best that I have been to. We also went and looked at the Vulcan Statue and the Civil Rights Institute. Birmingham is a cool city with a ton of history. One of my favorite places we went to was Rickwood Field, home of the Birmingham Barons. Many big names have played on that baseball field though, and it's the oldest one in the country. Friday morning we got up and left early for Tuscaloosa. We got there, and an Alabama Fan guided us to The Quad, and then to The Strip. We had some drinks along the strip before stopping at the Houndstooth (sp?). Soon after we left for the stadium, and enjoyed the game. Bryant Denny is an amazing stadium, and the Alabama fans are among the nicest I have ever met. Even though we won the game, they still went out of their way to help us and to make our trip as enjoyable as possible. I will definitely be going back.

Glad you enjoyed your time. Wish you had at least a tiny bit of a less enjoyable time though.

Note: The Barons only play one game a year at Rickwood now. Of course, it was their home for a long time, but they play at Region Park in Hoover now, who happens to be hosting the College Cup (NCAA Soccer National Championships) in a couple of weeks. There is a new park being built downtown at the moment as well.

I'll admit, I did have to punk a couple A&M students in my post-game frustration... they were asking for a bar to go to after the game, one where all the ladies would be at. I directed them downtown to Icon.
My fellow Bama fans will get it.
