And for other things too, that's why there are phrases like " general consensus" .

1973 is an interesting year.
There were four undefeated teams: ND, OSU, Michigan and Oklahoma.
Michigan and OSU tied each other. Oklahoma tied USC (Ohio State crushed USC in the Rose Bowl).
ND finished undefeated and untied.
Bama making any claim to '73 is a complete joke.

They did get more selectors in 73 than we did. As well as 1930 albeit most retroactively. Point is, its not a bad way to determine which titles to claim. If we did it we would claim 10, still the second most, and would probably not catch near the crap we do. Titles don't mean much if you are the only one that recognizes then for the most part.
Bedides we would tie them at 11 consensus titles this year anyway.
