Albert Pujols

  • What a joke. Getting a $250 million contract.. Hitting like .180.. No HRs.

He may a good dude but this is seriously a joke.

I do think he will turn it around but did he not train this offseason? He is literally at the bottom of the league in many hitting stats.

He better give some of that money back or to charity if this continues.

Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.

  • I knew this would happen, when I saw his contract I lol'd

Nobody is worth that much money and certainly not a player on the other side of 30

I watched moneyball last night (surprisingly not a bad movie) and it shows you can get a bunch of really, really badass players, or a damn team, with that type of money.

Whoever owns the Angels is first in line for dumbass of the year

  • Cardinals played it perfectly. Got the best hitter of a generation for an average of around 11 million a year and when he wanted to get paid they let the Angels pay him.

My favorite NFL team, The Titans, did the same thing with a far lesser player in Haynesworth. They should have done the same with Chris Johnson but they panicked and cut the check.

Paying these dudes huge salaries almost always backfires

  • Don't get me started. Huge lifelong Angels fan. My ex-wife is the niece of Wally Joyner, the greatest Angel ever. I had his number all growing up. Maybe it was a sign I've rooted for the wrong team my entire life.

  • Oh and this thread is stupid. He'll still end the year .300 35hrs 100rbi and average about that for the next 6 years.

And he'll sell that much money in tickets, jerseys, tv contracts, etc

That's a bit of a stretch. Nolan Ryan says hi. AP is killing me on my fantasy team, been riding the pine for a week now.

People keep saying this but it still hasn't happened.

He got booed, that's not going to help jersey sales UNTIL the man starts to hit.

Over 100 bats without a HR, lOngest streak without a HR in the league only behind Michael Bourne.

He looks bad too, his ABs aren't close.

Exactly I'm a tigers fan and the same thing happened with Curtis Granderson his first season at New York when we made the huge mistake of trading him. His 2nd season he blows up and now he's one of the best hitters in the league.

If Albert is still in a slump next year, I understand threads like this. Until then its way too early.

  • Now thinking about it a little, his power numbers may drop significantly and not just because of age... Outside of Texas, the AL West have pitcher parks in Anaheim, Oakland (massive foul territory) and Seattle. Only 9 games in Arlington every year to get those easy dingers.

Doubt he is what his age says. He might be near 40.

  • I live in St Louis. If you want to start an interesting conversation, just say "So, how 'bout that Albert Pujols?" The whole room will light up. Everyone in this town is a baseball fan, and everyone is reveling in Pujols situation. Haven't found a single person giving the dude an ounce of sympathy.

I wonder how Big Al's ego is holding up? No HR's... Batting in the 0.100's... Getting boo'd...

Next step - getting dropped to 6-7 in the batting order. The Angels have some 0.280+ hitters that really should be batting higher in the order.

If anyone believes he's 32, I have an arch to sell you in St Louis.

    Dicks Fake Eye20793

  • knew this would happen...albeit not to this extent and I am a little surprised he is doing this bad but:

    1) he got a huge contract with a lot of secured money, less motivation
    2) new ballpark, this is a pitcher's ballpark unlike that in St. Louis
    3) he now plays in the AL and he's clearly not making the transition well
    4) chemistry with his teammates, does he have it? from the views of the dugout, I'd say no
    5) new hitting coach, possibly has different ideas and is working on his swing in ways he isn't used to or at least looks that way

I laughed when someone in my fantasy league took him #1 overall, I tried to talk him out of it but he was defiant. I had Pujols last year and there was just too many changes for him to be the same person he was right out of the gate. Now Pujols will prob still reach 25-30 HRs, bat close to .300 and hit in around 80-90 RBIs but he just looks awful at the plate. His stance is looking uncomfortable, and he's not seeing the ball well. He's trying so hard that he's swinging at any and everything.

I like Pujols but he is seriously on the decline
