terrible stuff.... a guy was sleepwalking 1 night and went int the kitchen and dreamed he was making a salad...his wife walked in and saw that he was cutting his fingers off.....heard grips of horror stories

That stuff makes me nervous. I tried one once and I had some wild dreams and could barely even get out of bed. That was after about 13 hours of sleep as well.
I would just take something like muscle relaxers, xanax or klonapin. They work just fine and most doctors will prescribe them to you if you say you are having insomnia and ambien makes you nervous. Well at least my doctors will.

I've taken both Ambien and Seroquel as sleep aids. I wouldn't recommend staying awake after taking either one. You just feel trippy and strange. You don't go on murder sprees or anything like that, but you don't feel like you're in full consciousness. If you take them, I'd recommend taking them right before bed. You can also try to masturbate in bed before it kicks in. Whether or not you finish before you fall asleep... you still win.

I took one on a flight home from Hawaii. Not sure what mg. but it was spectacular. Knocked me right out and when I woke up in ATL I was a little groggy, but fine. Highly recommend. You might have gotten a bad batch.

I take Ambien 10mg or Zolpidem(generic) 10mg. They used to work great but now I can take them and still stay up for hours. Occasionally after awhile it looks like the tv is in 3d and you do feel off after a while if you stay up.
