American Idol is dumb now...

  • Heard Phillip Phillips sang a Dave Matthews Band song so I thought I'd check it out onDemand (haven't watched this since the second season). Since I couldn't fast forward, I sat down and watched the whole episode.

First off, the judges are retreaded.

Second off, it's two whole fvcking hours and they spend most of it plugging Queen and have the contestants sing their songs. Then they only give the contestants like a few minutes to sing their songs and then they rip on them for choosing out of the box songs that aren't "well-known" or "mainstream" and aren't sung the "right way" with terms used like "too artsy".

This show sucks and is terrible for music.

Have watched it the past 5 or 6 years, and thought it was pretty good. Losing Simon destroyed the show. He was the only one that would honestly tell somebody they sucked and couldn't sing.

The wife and I watched one episode this season, and everytime a crappy singer finished butchering a tune, we heard the same:

"I knew you had it in you, but I wondered if you would bring it. You did. Great job!"
"You are what this show is about, this is why this show is here. that was beautiful"
"I was worried about you singing that song, but you blew me away"

When the first 10-12 horrible singers were wonderful and some of the best they've ever had, we just tired of watching that crap.

  • I've never liked American Idol. Occasionally they get someone good on there but I tend to think most musical talent is found pretty well by talent scouts.

Not to mention, as has been said, the same comments and advice are recycled by the judges over and over.

  • Can someone explain to me how the voting is not rigged?

The 6th year finale of American Idol had 74 million people voting in two different two hour blocks.

So lets say that contestant A has 40 million people that want to vote for him, and contestant B has 34 million...how is it possible for that many people to vote in that amount of time, and not get the exact same amount of votes for each contestant? There had to be a limit of lines that they could possibly use for this, because I called plenty of times when voting for Sanjaya when I wanted him to win and destroy the show, and got a often got a busy signal, so how could they get any disparity in votes?

You have MANY more people calling in to vote for each person than the system can ever handle, so even if one guy has more support, how can they determine that given the limited time involved.

Its like you have a damn that can only let out a certain amount of water, no matter how much water is behind the damn. So if the reservoir is half full, if they open the gates 1000 gallons of water comes through maximum. If the reservoir is full to the top, if they open the gates 1000 gallons of water comes through maximum. If you are standing below the damn, and cant see the levels of the reservoir, there would be no way to know from there how full the reservoir was.

  • I like The Voice. I also like X-Factor because of Simon and the unique way they set up the show. Idol is just terrible all around. Terrible judges, terrible host, terrible choices of music for the contestants to sing.... My wife still watches, but even she doesn't like it all that much anymore.

  • i just dont get it. whats the point of having judges at this point if its all based on votes? also, what kind of "contest" lets fans vote? its pretty clear that the idea if awful because the winner is usually irrelevant whereas the losers have much better careers.

how about the judges actually choose who wins, seeing as they actually have experience? little teeny bopper girls should not be able to choose the winner.

i hate american idol and it has gone on 10 years too long.

Yeah I know....and Im somebody who thinks that Oswald acted alone, there is no Bigfoot or Loch Ness Monster and Neil Armstrong and 11 other men walked on the moon. Yet here I am with two conspiracy theories this week alone. (And dont get me started about the NBA fixing games. Its not pretty)

I am genuinely curious about this one though. It seems to be a simple, easily figured out logical flaw in the system this show has given us, but nobody ever seems to question it.
