If the military was off in 100% another country, and a country like china tried to invade us... you clearly do not understand how many gun owners there are in this nation.     If China wanted to invade us, given they have 300%+ more people than we do, they could if the military wasn't here. And those 75,000 gun holders could all be wiped out in a series of airstrikes.

    You can't actually think you could defend yourself, even with a fully automatic weapon. Air strikes, artillary, all of that stuff would wipe you out.

    I have a .308 caliber military style rifle that I use for target shooting.

    Instead of buying a separate bolt action type rifle to hunt with the very few times I ever hunt, I hunt with my .308 military style rifle. Are you saying I shouldn't be allowed to do this?
