Any Fishermen On Here?

  • I love to do some fishing. I'm kinda new to this board, so I figured I'd start a thread about it. I live in Iowa, mostly do crappie, walleye, and Northern/Muskie fishing. I'm sure there's probably some folks on here that love themselves some fishin.

  • Well I have a pond behind my house with some pretty good sized bass in it that I enjoy fishing in. During trout season I like to hit a few trout streams in North Ga.

I'll be damned, I didn't even know they had trout streams down there. We've got some up here in the NE part of the state. About 2 hours from me, beautiful country. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it up there this fall to do some trout fishing.

  • March- October we fish a lot out of the Panhandle of Florida. We don't do a lot of fishing inbetween those months. Right now we're waiting for the water to reach 68* degrees in March so the Cobia show up. After that, it gets better and better each month throughout the Summer.

We have plans right now for June to head to Desoto Canyon and the Petronas oil rig about 70 miles South by Southwest of PC. I haven't been to the Canyons since I was 18 and so I can't wait. Hopefully, we can grab a few tuna and maybe a marlin during the day and a swordfish at night. I have never caught nor been on the boat when a sword was caught and hope to change that this Summer.

the fish were running but the 20mph wind & 40ish degree temps drove me back in for a 2nd cup of coffee and an early breakfast.

    Weed,
i agree March-Oct is the best but next fall you should slide this way & i'll introduce you to some off the hook (inshore) November fishing in the Delta.

side note: new u/w pier lights help make early A.M. a near "daybreak" bite & the slotted reds are on fire right now. cool

Sounds good man. I actually have spent more than a few Winters on the water down there I just don't get the chance to every year. Fishing under the dock lights is one of my favorites. I caught my first Red ever doing that.

Absolutely. We had a nice fish fry that night. We ended up bringing that one home, along with about 20 others that were all between 12-14 inches.

  • Fish all through out Cali and Baja Cali. My first love is stream fishing/hiking through out the Sierra Nevada's/Mammoth but I mostly stay in SoCal fishing the local spots that have to stock fish because we suck out here on the West coast. Cats, Bass, Bluegill in the summer and trout during the winter.

Take a few salty Baja trips every year from San Quintin, Bajia de Los Angeles, all the way south to Loreto.

    Good times.

Grenada has a lot of big fish. I've caught plenty over 19" This summer pullin crankbaits . But that's a good haul. Those 12 to 14 are the best eatn. I'd much rather have a cooler full of them. Where do you fish.

Well I live in East Central Iowa. There's a reservoir about 30 mins south of here that produces some very very nice crappies, that are really easy to pickup in the spring time. Also a pretty damn good walleye fishing lake too.

  • i've been fishing 40+ years...last 25 strictly fly fishing...mainly for trout.

we had some good threads earlier on tab...I live in bham so i try to fish north georgia/east tennessee once a month for trout.
We do an anual western trip once a year in the summer.

The key is to slowly build up really nice gear once you know you're committed to the hobby.
buy discontinued rods at 1/2 price from a local fly shop is another way to go.

I've always been interested in learning how to fly fish. I've heard it's a lot of fun, but that was from my grandpa's friends that do it. I don't have any buddies that I could go along with to learn how, so I've just stuck to regular ol fishing.
