Any Fishermen On Here?

I'm from the middle Ga area, and live on a pretty small lake. Crappie and bass fishing is what's most popular around here, mostly trolling for crappie but shooting docks is where the fun is at. My dad and I started getting into offshore fishing after we spearfished for a little while. We generally go out of Carrabelle, FL, and it's a blast. Duck hunting is my true passion. If none of yall have tried it you need to asap.

I have never gone duck hunting and always wanted to try it. Buddy of mine lives for duck hunting.

Only birds I've ever hunted were quail (I go to a hunting resort in GA once a year), pheasant (Nebraska), tundra swan (in NC) and turkey here in Bama.

It sounds like you have been able to do a lot though. I've never hunted turkey or pheasant but have always wanted to. The ducks around here are just woodies with your occasional mallard, but if you get the chance to go out around the Arkansas Mississippi area you should do it. You'll definitely enjoy RATT.

I envy the majority of you guys that can fish year round. I don't mind ice fishing, it can definitely be fun, but I focus more on the drinking than the fishing. Which I guess isn't really a problem lol

I fish for smallies, but the biggest one I've ever caught was 3.5 pounds. Which is pretty damn good for the river that I usually fish in.

I've always enjoyed fishing Guntersville more than any other lake in the state of Alabama.

Logan Martin isn't a bad choice either. If I go fishing though, I'm either looking for bass or catfish. Bass tastes like shit but I love to fish them all the same. Catfish is the tits though. Easy fish to catch and my favorite fish sandwich by far.

I love pickwick because the big smallies, Wilson and wheeler have some good small mouth fishing too. I'm strictly in it for the sport , I don't eat fish unless it's fromitted the ocean.

  • I can put you on a spot at pickwick were you can catch a couple 5lbs + smallies.

My Grandpa used to go down south alllll the time and saltwater fish. Unfortunately it was when I was too young to really go down with him, and he stopped going down due to health reasons by the time I was old enough. I've heard it's an amazing experience.

clap sick video. I fish that whole stretch of the Platte from North Gate Canyon to Seminoe mostly. The drought really put a damper on things this year. Wyoming is a very special place.

I'm not a hunter, but I do have friends that go quite often. I've heard that the pheasant population has dramatically decreased over the last 5 or 6 years. Western Iowa used to be a FANTASTIC place to pheasant hunt, but it sounds like even out there has gone downhill. I'm not really sure why either.

Price on corn shot through the roof and farmers are using every square inch of land. This has eliminated tons of habitat. I know here in nebraska we've had some major ice storms that have contributed to it as well. It was just nuts two years ago and seeing hundreds of quail and pheasant dead from suffocation due to the ice covering their beaks. Some people blame the turkeys, I havent quite bought into that theory. Habitat loss is huge.

    i've been fishing 40+ years...last 25 strictly fly fishing...mainly for trout.

we had some good threads earlier on tab...I live in bham so i try to fish north georgia/east tennessee once a month for trout. We do an anual western trip once a year in the summer.

The key is to slowly build up really nice gear once you know you're committed to the hobby. buy discontinued rods at 1/2 price from a local fly shop is another way to go.

Haven't been fishing in years, but soooo jelly of you that you fly fish! Always wanted to learn how and I'm sure next spring I'm gonna give it a whirl...

    where do you live?
    td rg3.

what's your budget? definitely stop by a fly shop in the area and take it from there. if you can afford it, do a guided trip

I'm online now searching for eastern washington trout water...looks like that's going to be our summer trip.

    good luck.

amazing may be an understatement. i live here & seems to get better by the year.

on a current note, it was a little brisk for the boat today but we tore the slotted-reds a new one again this morning (5ish a.m.) under the new dock lights.
kept enough for lunch & released the others in fun as we caught them.

shortly after daybreak (6:45 maybe)a pod of Porpoise came calling & after watching them show us how its really done, we called it a morning.
