nah, it was a rental. and i pulled the rear binding straight out of the board on like the 3rd day out. just not used to having to do everything w/ 2 feet instead of one. pulled my right foot up and the bolt inserts ripped right out. 1st board i ever bought was a kemper freestyle like this one, but i have no idea what ever happened to it.

Keep your weight on the front foot and steer with the back foot. If possible get you some wrist braces so you dont break one when you fall 1000 times, oh and your butt will be sore!

Where have you been riding? Keep your weight on the front? Huh? Are you riding icey, East coast mountains or something? If you're riding deep, fresh, powder you have to lean back with weight on the rear and literally lift the front up or else you aren't going anywhere.

Not to mention the fact that if you try to "steer with your back foot" in decent snow, you'll be eating snow all day.

Learn to turn with your weight transfer. Yes, sliding the back foot around can work for turns... But i only do it on groomed runs when I'm messing around.

    Yup. Where do you ride?

  • I've been to Willamette Pass near UO a few times. Mt. Hood Meadows too.

Most of my riding has been in Colorado, but I did a week and a half in Whistler that was amazing. Their blues are blacks in the US. My brother convinced me to do a double black that almost killed me.

ill check them out after school... when im at school my forticlient blocks most websites... i use burton freestyles, i really like them very comfortable bindings, i have them set up perfect for my stance.. looking at getting some new boots, i got all my stuff when i was 14 and i was about 5'4 then, im 17 now and im around 5'10, 5'11ish so my feet have grown quite a bit since then, the boots were extra tight last year haha

  • didn't see this mentioned, but you might also consider wrist guards like children use when learning to skate.

your impulse will be the brace yourself with your hands instead of your forearms.. and that hurts. they also sell gloves with guards these days.

you might consider getting a butt pad for the first few days.. you'll appreciate this on day 3 of your learning adventure.

if you're not in great shape you might consider running up and down some hills for a few weeks beforehand , you'll be shocked at the muscles you don't realize you don't otherwise use.

  • Another suggestion... find the following items for the end of the day:

    - Ibuprofen
    - Vodka
    - Board shorts
    - Hot tub

That worked well for me, haha.

  • Dude, don't take lessons. I've been skiing for about 6 years or so and my friends have started snowboarding in waves throughout those 6 years and picked it up in a couple trips or so. I'm usually the asshole that convinces the newest boarder to come with me through some glades and shit and they usually refuse to ride with me for a couple trips or so.

Hell yeah. I've been to Whistler twice myself and it was hands down the best mountain I've ever been. I used to have a pass to Mt Bachelor and Mt Hood. I used to ride Baker years ago. I spent a winter in Tahoe and had a pass to Heavenly. I lived in Colorado for a few years and used to ride Breck and Beaver alot. I also hit Telly, Vail, etc...All incredible riding, but none of them compared to Whistler. I really want to go to Europe and ride the Alps. I didn't ride all last season because I broke my collar bone. I'm stuck on the East coast this winter so I'm going to have to take some trips out West and I may try and do my Euro trip this winter as well.

was in germany from 8th-11th grade and skied/snowboarded a ton over there. the coolest thing about so many of the mountains over there is no trees defining the runs. you get off the lift and it's just pure white everywhere you look. lots of cornice drops to hit, and just huge expanses of snow w/o limits. i need to get back at some point myself.

I've been to Tahoe a bunch of times. Hit up Heavenly, North Star, Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley. But the most fun I had up there was doing a snowcat trip into the backwoods. There were some crazy Swedes on that trip who would purposely launch right at trees, just to jump through forks etc.

Then in Colorado, my favorite was Breck, but that was mainly because I wasn't as good as I am now. It wasn't that challenging of a mountain though. A-Basin and Copper were fun... and I had one hell of a powder day at Vail.

Mammoth in Northern California is a fun mountain too.

I dislocated my ankle last year and it kind of ruined my season. Hopefully this year I'll have some better luck.

  • So just got back from my first time this year, had a pretty good day. Didn't get a lesson, but by about run #3 I was starting to link turns. Had a few hard falls, one while I was doing a toe side turn and I caught the heel side of the board. That one hurt. Also one where I was doing a heel side turn and caught the toe side of the board. That one wasn't too bad. Had a great time though, had few runs where I was linking turns left and right and didn't fall once during the entire run. Can't wait to go out again.

Also, my wrists, and elbows are pretty sore right now lol. Tried for the most part to not land on my wrists when I fell, but sometimes I couldn't hold back. The Flow bindings are awesome, I'm able to get set up with my board and get my foot in the bindings before I even reach 1/2 point at the lift.
