I played QB/K/P at a major D1 back in the dark ages & right after my 4yrs were up I started coaching.

What position did you play?

Pitchers are athletes in my mind...regardless of what most people think.

I love coaching. I coached for close to 30 years but I was diagnosed with stomach cancer about 6 months ago & was told that I had about 3 months to live after chemo. I went through chemo & surgery to find out I was cancer free in Feb. I resigned from my coaching job down in Mobile & now I am doing consulting work across the country. I am traveling to high schools from California to Maine helping new coaches install offenses & showing them the best ways to analyze game tape.

I also will be working a bunch of college camps across the country including schools like UGA, UCLA, UNC, and Tennessee.

My nephew who I raised is an intern at Bama also so I may work that camp as well.

I bowled at Penn State, we were top 10 in the country when I was there

Played Baseball, Catcher until Shoulder surgery, then 1st base Senior year. Graduated in '89

Yes. My father played there in the 70's, my aunt ran track, and I have a sister who played water polo after I was long gone; we're a Bruin family. Unfortunately I spent 2yrs there and was never going to get a scholly so I followed the money to San Luis Obispo.

Played football at Eastern Kentucky for a year. Knee injury sidelined me permanently, wasn't the same player after. It's amazing how far knee surgeries have come in the last 5-7 years.

Walk-on running back at The University of Alabama. 1976-77.

Finally someone from my era. I played 1970-1974 at a different school but still someone from the 1970s!

Played Soccer for 3 years at a prominent D2 School.

Played in the Chicago Fire developmental league/team for almost 2 years.. Suited up for the Chicago Fire for 4 games..

Tore my ACL/MCL during a training session shortly after.
Career basically over at that point. Between the tears, missing cartilage in my knee and the long rehab times, never got back to the point of competing at a high-level again.

Now coach an All-Star traveling team, boys 14-16.

If you took the time to become good at/participate in something recognized as a "sport"..

Then you're an "athlete" IMO. However, JMO.
