Any lawyers on board?

  • Just trying to see if there is an legal action that can take place to help me out of a situation.

I was in contact with Admins on another recruiting site, and mentioned that I wanted cancel. I was told that I could not cancel because it was a weekend, and you can only call to cancel from 8-5. I can not do this as I work during this time. The admin took an additional step and locked me out of my personal information so that I could not access my credit card information to delete it. I highly doubt this is legal. I want to be able to cancel, and this has been an absolute nightmare. Can not take a vacation day off of work either. It is just absolutely absurd you can sign up 24/7 but they will not let you to cancel and go extra lengths to prevent you from being able to. I just feel like they are holding my Credit Card and Personal information hostage at this point. What would be the best course of action to take to fix this? They are unresponsive.

  • Additionally that will not allow me to view the content since that conversation. But they say I'm still considered a member and need to cancel or I will be charged.

  • Cancel your credit card. That is what I ended up doing with TOS.

  • Cancel credit card. It's a good thing to do this periodically anyways.

At no point between 8:00-5:00 M-F do you have 10 mins to make a phone call? That's really a harder solution than the possible legal action you're asking about?

    Its not just 10mins mate.

More like several hours. That is why I had the free time but decided it would be better to just cancel my credit card after 30mins.

  • My calling is to be a lawyer. I'm good at it, but I don't wanna do it. Anyone else like this?

  • $200 an hour for an attorney to recoup $9.95 in damages. If they can resolve it in 8 seconds, it's definitely worth it.

I really should go to law school. I'm good at it but I don't care for the job itself

I was on the phone for 10 minutes and said enough. I do not have time for that. My hours are dictated by client demand, and I just do not have time for a phone call. I can sign up any time I want, but they wont let me cancel, and they will not allow me to access my personal information including credit cards. I have notified them that I need to cancel and cannot do it during the time they provide, and they decided that was the appropriate response.

I had to call to cancel a rivals membership a couple of years ago. I definitely don't remember it taking very long, although it probably varies based on when you call. The same subscription temporarily cancelled a bit earlier due to an expired credit card. I thought the consistent emails asking to update my payment info was incredibly annoying. Way worse than trying to spell out a username to some Indian dude who probably hates America a little more after every phone call.

I wouldnt be canceling 247, they are awesome. Way more information than the other site, and they aren't out to scam you.

My question was more along the lines of wondering if what theyre doing is even legal. I have never heard of a company doing whatever they can to store your personal information including credit cards, when they are unauthorized to do so. Just seems like the consumer should have control over that.

Please tell me you just mean the card number and not the credit card account?

They will keep your information on file and continue to keep it even after you have cancelled. Another reason why it's a good idea to periodically change cards.

  • Contact an attorney and have him/her send support an email. You'll hear back within one business day...

  • Cancel the card number. This isn't something worth hiring an attorney over.

For future reference, pay for online things with temporary refillable cards. Put the exact amount of your subscription on the card, and leave it at that. If you want to renew, refill the card.

Even if you could get to your information, it would not allow you to delete. First call and cancel. That took me 5 minutes. Any trouble and contact your credit card provider and ask them for help.

  • A quick call to your credit card company to stop the automatic payment is all it takes.

This. The credit card company can block the charges.

Yep. I have done it before when my wife got suckered into one of those scams where they send you junk over and over again and keep charging your card. One call and it all stopped.
