Anyone Wanna Talk Conference Expansion?

  • read recently were:

the big 12 and ACC may make alliance to keep the sec and mainly B10 away. this may or may not be a good thing imo but idk if it will work.

if ND joined the ACC as a full member would it save the conference?

i would like the sec to grab a combo of VT/Virgina and UNC/NCst. (personally just want this to be over)

saw where wvu lost a ton of money last year.

maryland may not get away with the whole 50 mil deal

read where fsu is unhappy but is pretty much stuck.

anything else? thoughts? opinions? dont care?

    It will be picked apart.

FSU, GT, Clemson, VT, NCSU, UNC have all been in talks to leave. They will be going to the B1G, Big XII or SEC. Those are the conferences ND needs to get it into.

idk why gt is so valuable. i get they are in atlanta but the sec owns the state of georgia. i like gt as a school but i dont see how that is a big pick up. the b12 are being a bunch of puss and dont want to expand unless they have to.

  • everyone at FSU wants to GTFO as soon as possible except our dipshit president. he thinks being in the same conference as Duke and UVA will somehow magically raise our academic standing. he doesnt seem to understand that nobody cares who else is in your conference. if we start generating more revenue we can raise the academic rating by spending more on..........wait for it..............academics. we cant do that staying in this dead end lame ass ACC conference getting shit for money on our media deal

media market. even though nobody goes to or watches GT football, they want tvs in atlanta to get people to watch OSU, michigan, etc. its the same thing as rutgers. they dont bring jack shit to the table other than the new jersey/new york market. other than that they are a bottom tier school traditionally and in athletics.

GTs academic reputation is also superb and that attracts the B1G schools

im hoping for some reason they take a flyer and pick up FSU. pray. we could use the money and i like playing those slow ass schools from up north.

  • Florida State's AD Talking Candidly About Expansion
    By joe STAFF on March 8, 2013, 8:19 AM | 30 comments
Read the entire article. I don't remember anyone in the ACC talking so openly about this before. What I found most telling is quoted below.

The rumblings have quieted a bit -- both nationally and at Florida State -- but Spetman said the wheels continue to turn.

"It's not done," he said. "I watch it every day, reading something about it every day, trying to get a sense and calling my counterparts and seeing where they're really at."

"Unless you bring in a revenue for them so that they don't reduce their conference distribution to themselves, they aren't going to bring you in," Spetman said. "That's what I don't think people evaluate as much. It would be great to be in the SEC with our radius of schools and the way our fans travel and their fans travel, but if they bring Florida State into the SEC, I'm trying to see, how do we sell that we bring them enough additional revenue that we pay for ourselves and they make more money off of us? They have Florida just two hours away that has the TV market here."

In the short term, Spetman said he's confident that the ACC is moving in the right direction, and the Noles staying remains the most appealing solution. However, he said his priority is to ensure that Florida State is prepared for the next major shift.

"We've had conversations at the senior level about what we should consider," Spetman said. "There will be more of those conversations -- they'll continue. It's an evolution every day."

you have no idea how happy that would make me. UF and georgia would scream bloody murder and bitch to no end to prevent it.

theres nothing better than playing against SEC teams. i went to the FSU Bama game in jacksonville back in 07 and had a great time. fun fanbase to interact with and i almost incited a riot with Bama fans

yep. too bad we didnt have an actual offer. its kinda like recruiting. we didnt have a commitable offer.

if those were bad times for you i dont know what to say. i dont know how it could be worse than FSU. 07 was the darkest year in FSU history for a long time. limped through the season. got annhilated by UF at home, academic cheating scandal, and lost to kentucky in the bowl game because we only had about 50 players eligible to play

most likely. i think FSU and ND are the keys to the puzzle. if ND joins fully the ACC will stabilize. if we bolt its going to be a free for all

to me vegas seems like miami. too much gambling and other stuff to do. i dont know how many people want to stay there for college or go to UNLV. vegas is the kind of place you visit but dont stay

Yea, I've heard that Missouri is not liked so far as an SEC team. Wonder if TXAM wouldn't have had such a succesfull season if they would be saying the same thing about them. Probably not though because of the presence in TX.

im ok if we all stay where we are at. except i want the b12 to man up and play a championship game and add some teams like byu, air force, colorado st, or something. anything other than teams like wvu on the other side of the country. i like it when conferences are somewhat regional
