Anyone Wanna Talk Conference Expansion?

  • Canadianhorn said...

If the SEC was smart they'd wait until Deloss Dodds' contract is up in 2014. Hope Texas chooses a more willing AD, then go after the motherload of Texas and OU. That would be an awesome conference.

i wouldn't mind that. problem is that we already have a texas school in A&M and oklahoma, while an awesome football name, doesn't offer much market. it is unlike if we add fsu we seal off any chance at florida. maybe i am wrong shrug

  • I hate the expansion plain and simple. On another subject, I don't think ND will ever join a conference, mostly because of ther ego and also they don't have to. Hate them all you want, but they can single handedly make it on their own financially. The only way they could be forced to join is if the new playoff black balled them. It won't though because the powers that be are too greedy to pass up the absurd amount of Money ND would bring to the party. They flirt with conferences for fun but they're not joining. The only other possible chance is if a conference is desperate enough and offers ND like an 80/20 split of the conference money pot, and even then I'm not sure they would go. Just my thoughts

Considering the new playoff system ND NEEDS to join a conference for football. That extra championship game is huge for getting into the top 4 at the end of the season and staying competitive. They will make moves to join for football in the next 8 months. Just watch.

Yeah, sure. ND needs to play more ACC schools to boost its profile with the selection committee. Keep telling yourself that.

Texas gives the SEC the second most populous state in its entirety (not the small portion A&M brings) and one that is still growing. OU's TV numbers wouldn't even matter. That's the option you explore first imo. If it doesn't work out between the parties so be it, and go ahead and split the ACC three ways, but you don't move on a couple long hanging fruit right away when you just have to wait 20 months for the chance at the biggest revenue driver in college sports and a recognizeable/ marketable/ historically successful second choice.

It has already been said that the committee will place emphases on conference champions. Unless the acc gets super awesome nd's 5 or 6 game schedule against them won't mean much. When they see and or NBC can't/ won't pay them like everyone else they will be left out there too. Thru are just delaying the inevitable IMO. Will be funny IMO if they are left out in the cold. And don't kid yourself that can happen if they stay the corse

If we add Texas and Oklahoma I'm all for it. I'm sure most agree.

Nd is gonna need to play a hellava schedule each year and win all the games to make the playoffs. Or....the system will still be flawed and you get more 42-14 championship games

It would be great but won't happen. The Big 12 is now going to survive. The only real shot it had at completely disbanding was the PAC16 plan. When that fell through, the threat was over. Everything is in a holding pattern across the nation and all it will take to set off the final round of realignment is the Big 10 making their move. I'd personally rather stay at 14, but I think it's almost a certainty that the Big 10 will move south. Then the SEC moves into VA/NC territory, Big 12 takes a couple southeastern schools, and that's it. You'd have two 12 team conferences (PAC and Big 12), two 16 team conferences (SEC and B1G), and then an ACC that is barely relevant. They'll be like the Big East and linger on the fringe of the big stage for a couple years before fading away (not saying they'll cease to exist - just that they'll no longer be talked about).

ND made a two team playoff this year without playing in a CCG or winning a conference championship. When we go to a four team playoff, access will get even easier because there will be twice as many spots and, thanks to the SEC and B12, winning a conference championship will not be a requirement for selection. Moreover, it won't be very long before we move to an eight team playoff. At that point, many of the teams selected will not be conference champions. ND will have no difficulty qualifying for an eight team playoff. And finally, no one in their right mind would suggest that ND would enhance its SOS by joining the ACC full time and playing a full slate of ACC teams. Joining the ACC full time would do just the opposite.

Do SEC fans want more teams or are they happy with what and who they have?

outside of FSU,Clemson, or possibly a UNC / L'ville hoops grab, no one deserves to be in the SEC.

If ND joined the ACC fully then the ACC would stabilize. Adding ND would allow the ACC to renegotiate their TV contract.

This. If ND is already playing 5 games, why not add 3 more to get to 8 and join fully and allow the ACC to renegotiate....becuase if that doesn't happen the ACC will fall apart.

IMO ND is on the clock with many ACC teams wanting to fill a few remaining spots. UNC will not do anything without NCState having a safe landing. UVA/VT will not do anything without the other having a safe landing. VT didn't leave for the SEC in place of Mizzu because we didn't want to be the lynch pin for the ACC crumbling, and with MD leaving...it would have happened that way

im still trying to grasp the SEC Brass adding Mizzou instead of FSU the last time around.

not because of FSU's program but instead the mere fact of their geography & the fact that all or atleast most of the SEC East already hates the Noles.

it would be great tv reguardless of the dink Nole market.

I'm sure the SEC hired analyst firms and the conclusion was that adding Missouri was of more benefit. Plus I'm pretty sure Florida balled FSU.

im no FSU fan by any stretch but lets face it Mizzou week isnt an EYE catcher requardless of "the benifit".

the Noles on the other hand, would be a weekly classic.
    FSU vs USCe
    FSU vs Fl
    FSU vs Ga
    FSU vs LSU
FSU thumping Auburn at Home or away. cool

Easy math on that one...Mizzu added a TV market, FSU added no TV's....as all VT fansfrustrated

It's all about the SEC network and subscription rates. We already have UF, Missouri was a new market. Same reason Texas won't get in... much more profitable to add a whole new state like VA and NC.

I still think ND controls their own fate. Ill believe the committees statement when I see it actually backed by their actions. The playoff is about money and I just can't see them excluding ND for not being in a conference. They bring too much money to the table. I don't like it ,but I think the greed of the higher ups will allow ND to do as they please.

i understand the theory they used i just simply dont agree with it.

you improve your product with FSU playing vs SEC East opponents & you likely get the Mizzou tv audience anyway.
without actually having to take Mizzou onboard. shrug

I agree with this. And I think the SEC eventually caves and grabs FSU even if it ends up irritating UF. The alternative is to allow FSU to end up in the B12. I don't think the SEC will stand by and allow the B12 grab FSU and gain a major foothold in Florida the way the SEC has done in Texas by grabbing A&M.

everyone at FSU wants to GTFO as soon as possible except our dipshit president. he thinks being in the same conference as Duke and UVA will somehow magically raise our academic standing. he doesnt seem to understand that nobody cares who else is in your conference. if we start generating more revenue we can raise the academic rating by spending more on..........wait for it..............academics. we cant do that staying in this dead end lame ass ACC conference getting shit for money on our media deal

Another FSU crybaby... start winning the big games. Like the Hokies FSU chokes. .. then you can beg for more money. .
