  • On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 7. It wasnt terrible, but it didnt blow me away either.

I gave it a 7.5. A good movie, not great, but definitely worth a watch in the theaters and i will buy it when it comes out.

The next two will be better IMO, the more the story comes together the more awesome it will be. Smaug is gonna wreck everything lol

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

So do I. I am waiting until Saturday night because the roommates have exams. The suspense is killing me.

Anyone watched it in 48 fps/3D? I heard varying reports.

    Thoughts?

I just saw it. Honestly, I loved the high frame rate. I am not a big 3D guy, but there were several moments throughout where I said to myself "holy shit" out loud. I give it a 10/10

    ****Spoilers*********

They did change a few things though. Most of the storyline with the White Orc following them around wasn't in the book. After they leave the misty mountains they are chased by the mountain goblins, not some other pack. The scene with the trolls was altered a little bit too.

The stuff they added with the White Council was awesome. The whole storyline with Radagast discovering the Necromancer and the Council meeting about it has a lot of potential. I really hope we get to see the four of them kick some ass.

They gave the Elf Queen a good amount time on the big screen. I don't think that girl is superhot or anything but she's PERFECT for that role and she did a great job. So much more will start to happen in the next 2 movies, this was a great way to set it all up.

  • I agree with LOS.

I was really disappointed in the imbalance between storyline, acting and plot flow with production. I felt like I was constantly being bombarded with visual scenes.

While I didn't give it as high of a rating is do agree with your spoilers section.

It almost seems like Saruman is already under the influence of the necromancer(Sauron for those who don't know), or else he is really hesitant in general.

I hope that is not the case since the Hobbit takes place about 50 years before LOTR.

Indeed, I was under the impression that the little orb thing from the 2nd movie(I think) really influenced him, but he seemed....strange in this one. Maybe that is his default nature lol

  • Good movie, but too much at times it slowed to a crawl. Very similar to the set up with The Fellowship. Worth seeing in theaters.

Yeah I agree. She is supposed to be almost like a god, and she completely nails it.

Yeah, Saruman is really hateable. Maybe that is just his normal personality, but he is incredibly haughty.

Also, I thought that Radagast's rabbit sled was a little over the top. Seemed like something out of a Narnia movie.

That slay was over the top, it was kinda funny though.

Oh yeah, I think so. I'm not sure where they are going to end the second movie. Maybe just after Smaug is killed while the dwarves are stuck inside the mountain. I'm not sure.

I expect the fight against Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies to be epic.

  • It would have been much better if they made the villains (orcs, goblins, trolls etc.) look real instead of computer generated. In the LOTR the orcs looked real but the pale orc in this movie just looks like a video game monster.

Nerd Alert but he was already looking for the ring at this point and was hesitant to get rid of the necromancer because he wanted to be led to it. The LOTR was a little misleading because for most of it just seemed like he wanted to be Sauron's lackey when in reality he wanted the ring for himself to rule. Haven't seen hobbit yet

    End nerd rant/

I agree. I feel like we are getting the George Lucas treatment. Now I know how people who grew up with the original SW trilogy feel about the new trilogy. cry

Im kinda thinking the second will end maybe right after bilbo sneaks in and sees smaug(or after he is killed like you said)

And that battle will be amazing, I can't wait haha

  • Did the same music from the LOTR's come up again in the Hobbit, or were there some new stuff, or a mix. It does matter. Howard Shore is brilliant.
