Anyone using one of the new Google Chromebooks?

  • If so, thoughts? We may be in the market for a new laptop, and those things are awfully affordable ...

Hmm, I'll have to do some research on those.. I just got a new MacBook Air 2 days ago and I friggin' LOVE this thing.. Fastest and smoothest laptop I have ever used in my life... I loved my old MacBook but this new MacBook Air and new OS system is friggin' beast mode.

I'm interested to hear about this Chrome book though.. The Laptop is made by Google?

Made by Samsung, Acer, HP, etc, but runs off the Google OS. Probably wouldn't beat your Air except on price, I'm guessing. But they look pretty intriguing.

  • I got a Samsung chromebook two months ago. I also have an iPad and a decent Dell laptop. The latter two get minimal use now and I'm selling the iPad to my parents. I hated not having the keyboard on the iPad and I was tired of the laptop being too big. The chromebook is the best of both in my opinion. It's small and very light and lightning fast. The only real drawback is not being able to use Microsoft Office or any .exe files. It doesn't really bother me too much though. I just type of all my papers using skydrive and then make final edits on my laptop. For web browsing, you can't beat the chromebook though.

I'm in the market for a new laptop as well and am very intrigued with this. Do you have the standard Chromebook or the 550?

PSUfan - can you load Microsoft Office on it?

  • I just have the standard $249 one.

No you can't load Office on to it, because it can't run .exe files. There's plenty of ways to still use the programs with things like Office app on skydrive or just using google docs. You can also view office files through downloads.

  • Interesting, I need a new laptop and was thinking about getting one.

All I do is look at the web on it. I dont play games or write any papers or anything so I assume this would be good for me.

It would be perfect for you. The speed is amazing and the battery life is even better.

I bet. My two biggest things that I didn't like the iPad for was the lack of a keyboard and using multiple tabs. When I open threads on 247, I open like 10 tabs at once and tab through the topics and it's a lot quicker to do that on a laptop.

  • My battery life currently reads 93% - 7:13 left. Honestly, that's probably not too far off.
