Anzalone to ND

We sure did light up the Irish last year in the bowl game in the 2nd half. Your team let four freshman OL and one Senior push your DL around, and a QB who was injured beat you.

Dude we both know that is not true, come on. We shut you out in the first half then our DC got a case of "lets play prevent to win" instead of bringing the house like ND in the first half. So, while you won 18-14, lets keep it real.

    Greg,

I am as big of a ND fan as anyone. But, lets stop using that as an excuse. ND has a great pool of talent to choose from yearly. Do they have the entire Top 100 to choose from? No, but there is plenty of talent for ND to sign. Do they have the same pool as Bama and LSU? Of course not but there is elite talent out there for ND. The fact is that of the 26 commits for Bama in 2012, ND was able to offer 5. So yes, there is a disadvantage but still plenty of elite kids that will come to ND. ND struggles on the field have nothing to do with getting talent. These types of arguments make ND fans sound petty, I will not use academic standards as an excuse. ND just started allowing early enrollees 6 years ago and just got a training table 2 years ago. It things like this plus several BAD coaching hires in a row by the administration that have stopped ND from winning. The administration had to make up their collective minds that football is going to be important again. They changed their perception after Holtz left because they were afraid ND was going to be perceived as some kind of football factory, but they are slowly starting to realize it again. Now, I do not buy this irrelevant crap that people spew, everyone thought ND would be forced to join a conference but there ND is, sitting pretty with access to the final four and a reported annual tie in to the Orange bowl and supposedly working on a Fiesta Bowl tie in as well. Relevance is not the issue off the field, but as a fan I am ready for ND to start winning again on the field.

A reasonable response but how do you know that ND could only offer 5 guys? You see all 26 grades & SAT scores?

Of course not, but Bama recruits elite athletes across the board. Maybe I should have typed "only offered", but one would draw the conclusion that ND would like to offer as many as possible. My point was that while ND does have differing academic standards, I do not like it used as an excuse for winning.

I'll agree, everything goes in cycles and I'll be happy with the current cycle but it seems that ND has plenty of resources and underwhelms. How long has it been since they were relevant?

Ahhh the most mis-understood word in message board history "relevant" - well considering we are discussing them every friggin day pretty much makes them relevant.

NBC is still cutting checks for sellouts, That's makes them relevant

Every conf wants them, that makes them relevant

ND is the biggest college football brand in the US - that makes them relevant.

Good deal, I think also that maybe a kid doesn't show interest so offer is not made? Happens to bama as well, or ND staff maybe rated a differebt kid higher or a better chance at grtting and focused recruiting efforts that way?? Either way ND doesnt have a problem getting high rated kids, I think it's been the development on the field. Thats not taking a shot at ND either just perception

No, you are correct. From Davie to Willingham to Weis, development among other things were lacking. I am not a Kelly lover but I do think he is on the right track. I just laugh when I hear fans from other schools, mostly in the Midwest say that Kelly could be fired after this year. The last thing ND needs right now is a another transition, Kelly will get his full 5 years and ND could be just that much better for it.

Dude like I said we were young across the board on the OL, so there was no excuse for notre dames DL not to be able to beat our OL one on one. Plus one of your TDs came off a pick six in the first half, so the score is a little misleading since we could not get a rhythm on offense until the secon half.

And one of your TD drives, the game winner was the result of an interception at about ND's 20 yard line. ND blitzed and brought the house in the first half with great results, if ND's DC did not get a case of trying to fix something that was not broken in the second half, the outcome may have been different. But, you won and congrats to you.

Kelly seems to be laying the ground work and still getting the players. I think weis is all hype. He was lucky early with you guys as the players were in place. He sucked at FL and gets another job. He's living off the Pats history because of Brady/Bill

Thanks for resonable responses, not the typical comments back as posted above

No problem, I like good intelligent football discussions. I usually do not post on TBB but I could not take the above responses making all ND fans sound petty with those academic excuses. Yeah, Weis getting the Kansas job just blew me away. I couldn't believe it.

The reason he couldn't blitz in the 2nd half as much was because our oline came together and your secondary couldn't hold up against our wideouts.

18 points and 270 yards isn't lighting up anything. Stop son, just stop.

1993 way too long. USC went through the same thing, believe we won 10/11 in a row before their nice run. Bama was horrible for a nice period too. OU and UT same situation.

You do know all of those points and the majority of those yards came in one half right, and our running game not doing much.

Your point? Still not a lot of yards or points, even if you think a football game is one half.

Exactly. It's so easy to say "fire the guy in charge". It's a lot harder to make a list of candidates who would actually take the job who would be better. Plus, you'd have to go through another dip as they implemented their system, coaches, got players to fit it, etc.

On point with that... I've seen 5* kids come in and never develop from that point. This is with the last 3 coaching staffs mind you. BK is changing the culture, it's a process. Look at our last 3 classes. D has been a priority and it's paying off. Still concerned about CB issues, hopefully we get two more with this class. This year will suck 7-6 or 8-5 unless a QB takes charge.. A lot of fans think BK is in jeopardy this year, not the way I see it. 2013 is his year to sink or swim with Irish faithful. Fair or unfair, lots of positive signs.

As a ND fan the 2nd half strategy was a complete failure by the coaching staff. No way should we have stopped attacking with the horrible CB play we had last year. FSU fans have said that was because of the WR's. Not true, we knew coming into the game how bad our CB play was.. FSU won and we lost, there was no beat down handed out..

You did see a completely different strategy by our D the second half right? Horrible CB play had nothing to do with it, we experienced that all year, we knew what we were playing with before the game ever started. Nice win though, FSU isn't that ahead of ND at this time. QB and scheduling are completely different at this time.
