Are white people who immigrate here considered African American?

    affirmitive action hiring practices for one. How do you not consider it a benefit if a black person gets a job over a more qualified white person just so there will be diversity in the work place?

    Do you remember when Auburn hired Chizik? Do you remember how many talking heads called AU a racist institution because we didnt hire Turner Gill? The only reason that they wanted us to hire Turner Gill was because he was black....btw, how is Turner Gill doing at Kansas?

  • I remember watching the winter Olympics the last go around and a black French man won what ever event it was. He was the first black to do it. The NBC announcer asked how it felt to be the first African American to win it and he looked at him like he had three heads. Pretty funny.

  • In high school, my predominately white school gave out an African American Student of the year deal. Well, just so happens we have 2 white brothers from South Africa (I played hockey with the younger one) and the older of the 2 decided to put his name in the running one year. There was chaos in the school, the news got involved and it was hilarious. so no, i dont think that flies. he did not win the award. im on the side that thinks he should have been eligible since he really was African

    im pretty sure they got rid of the award because they couldnt just say black student of the year. and for reference this was like 05-06

    There are requirements in my industry that our customers buy a certain amount of their supplies from minority suppliers when dealing with county or state governments. In some areas there are no minority suppliers qualified or capable of handing those contracts. In those cases we have to select minority companies that aren't qualified, and use their name on purchase orders and invoices. They are not involved in the process in any capacity, and monthly we send them checks ranging from $2,000 to $7,500, so that our customer is in compliance In some cases that is nearly $100,000 per year and their sole responsible is walk to their mailbox, get their check, and cash it.

    Dude, I was the one who had to find a way to help a $12 million a year customer comply with the request when this initially started. We still are doing it with several customers, and we have purchased a minority company in Texas, and are in the process are getting licensed in the southeastern states so that we can shift the business to our affiliated company which has 51% minority ownership. This really sounds like something I'm making up?

    I am a general contractor. When bidding on fed projects at redstone arsenal, I can have the lowest price but the contract will be given to a minority owned company with a higher bid just bc the gov must meet a quota of minority and female owned companies working at any given time. How is that fair?
