Arvydas Sabonis, a top-5 all-time center?

I'm just sayin' he probably would have only averaged 30-40 games a season.

Because of basketball shoes and different made courts?

You have no idea the kind of damage 300lb and continuos leaping in shoes that lack the proper support on courts without cushioned underlay can do to your back and knees do you?

Hey Trojans, LSU's 74 are better than your 75.

This makes me think that a 300lb+ Shaq would never have held up physically in the 70's, he could barely hold up in the 90's and 00's. Without modern day shoe technology and modern day court underlay, also team charters and many other things that benefit the modern day player there is no way Shaq would have been able to stay remotely healthy enough to truly dominate.

Spot on. Shaq with playing weight around 330+ could not handle that era. The treatment and medical attention to players in the 70's was basically a "put a band aid on it and get back out there." Would Shaq dominate for those 40-50 games he could play in? Absolutely. Would he last 10 years? No.

I dont have any doubt Sabonis would be knocking on the door of the Top 5 if not solidly in had he played in the US from college on.

Top 20 Centers IMO *[I left Mikan off...while I'm sure he belongs in here somewhere, I have no clue where] 1) Kareem 2) Wilt

    3) Moses [put him here just to piss people off...and because i'm a Moses homer] 4) Russell 5) Olajuwan 6) Shaq [put him here because of work ethic; with the heart of a Moses, Reed, Thurmond or Mourning, he'd be #1]

    7) Robinson 8) Ewing 9) Walton [would have been higher but for injuries] 10) Thurmond

    11) Sabonis 12) Reed 13) Gilmore 14) Mourning 15) Cowens

    16) Wes Unseld 17) Robert Parrish 18) Bob Lanier 19) Jerry Lucas 20) Dwight Howard stir

    Kareem
    Wilt
    Shaq
    Olajuwon
    Russell
    Moses
    Walton
    Robinson
    Ewing

Kareem never went up against any real talent. Which begs the question what would have Shaq done in that era?

He played against Wilt how many times? Mchale was a forward and Parrish was laughable. Wes Unseld and Reed honestly what would big Shaq have done to them in the low post...??

    Dude you have no argument.

  • Haha at Shaq braking down. That animal is one of the biggest and freakish humans to ever walk. Fast lightning fast. Strong as an ox. Handle. Pure Power. In his prime he was the greatest to ever do it. No one before or after has been like the Diesel.

Wilt and Kareem get the nod over him but it's arguably. No one else is in that sentence. 3 horse race.
