Attending a college and being a fan

I once drove through Gainesville, FL. Now I'm a big Gator fan. It's awesome. You just Gator bait, son.

Congrats. I don't care who you are a fan of.

You Sparty's all do the same chit, I don't care if you hop all over the new best team. It doesn't bother me who you are a fan of, nor does it concern me. The fact some random kid from Canada that cheers for Michigan bothers you just shows your inferiority complex.

You just sound jelly IMO. But hey that's your problem.

none of us say that you can't be a fan of a school you don't attend. it's when you start acting like you're part of the university when you have absolutely no affiliation to the school other than buying shirts and hats and occasionally going to a game. i have no problem if someone's a fan of UM and never went there, but don't bring up their "superior academics" in an argument when they never went to UM.

So can I bring up the superior academics since I went there? Just checking.

I'm going to go to bed crying myself asleep that some kid from Canada loves UM football and is a little bandwagoner.

This might blow your mind but....

99% of all football fans out there aren't thinking about UM. They are concerned with their own team and outside of football season, it doesn't even register. Even fans that consider themselves die hards don't even follow recruiting. There is only a tiny niche of fans that post on these boards and know about other teams. We represent just a fraction of the most committed fans. So when you say that nobody cares about MSU football outside of our fans, it doesn't really mean much of anything. The same can be said for any school. I guess there is an off chance that some random guy in New Mexico could be worrying about Michigan football next year. Your mind = blown.

    Sure. I don't care.

Who are you trying to convince I am a bandwagon? I don't care what you or others think.

Bills fan screams of bandwagon, same with Leafs, Raptors, and Jays fan. I just jump on the newest and best fad.

  • I live in Hawaii and I'm a Michigan fan. Went to Ann Arbor once, otherwise I don't have any affiliation to UM. I like Hawaii too, but I don't want to go here for college and the team brings in a lot of crooks. The AD and coaches are dumb as well (before Chow).

Also a Packers fan, call it what you want. I remember 4th down and 26 as well as supporting Aaron Rodgers for Randy Moss (biggrin).

  • If you can't be a fan of a school unless you attend it then how can anyone 18 and under be a fan? Quite honestly, as long as you pick a team and stick with them through thick and thin, who GAF about who you root for?

agreed. Saying that you can't be a fan if you didn't go there is ridiculous. It's just a different level of involvement imo. If you go by that then the only "real" fans are the ones who go to their favorite school and played ball there, everyone else is a bandwaggoner. All just a level of involvement.

    Eric Cartman as Slave Owner

→ → → → → → → → → → → → → → http://bit.ly/EricCartmanSlaveOwner South Park Season 15 Episode 1505 ~ Crack Baby Athletic Association South Park Season 15 Episode 5 ~ Crack Baby Athletic Association South Park Season 15 ~ Crack Baby Athletic Association After seeing the "saddest commercial ever" presented by Sarah McLachlan about crack babies, Kyle goes to help volunteer at the hospital, but finds Cartman already volunteering there. Suspicious, Kyle follows Cartman and finds that he, Craig, Clyde and Butters have gathered together to form a new business called the "Crack Baby Athletic Association", in which they induce crack-addicted babies to fight each other for a ball filled with crack, with the fights being broadcast on the Internet. Kyle is shocked and horrified at what Cartman has done, but Cartman convinces him it is a win-win situation for everybody and persuades him to work for the business as its accountant. Kyle, troubled by his conscience as he becomes a version of Gordon Gekko, repeatedly justifies himself to Stan, who just listens to him in silence. The business quickly prospers, and the group prepares to cut a deal with EA Sports for a video game based upon their sport. Despite Cartman insisting that they are a nonprofit organization, Kyle tells him that he is uncomfortable with the idea of selling the babies' likenesses to EA Sports while giving them nothing, so Cartman promises to find out how "other companies get away with it". He goes to the athletic department at the University of Colorado dressed as a Southern slave owner and referring to the University student athletes as "slaves", but gets no advice on how to treat his own "slaves" from the affronted president. Kyle comes up with a plan to compensate the crack babies by spending 30% of the money from the deal on a state-of-the-art orphanage and presents it to Cartman; much to Kyle's surprise, Cartman actually approves of the scheme, due to the public goodwill it will generate. Meanwhile, Clyde and Craig try to get in touch with the guitarist Slash in an attempt to have him play at half-time of an upcoming crack baby fight. However, they discover that Slash is actually a make-believe character based on a Dutch legend named "Vunter Slaush", and that the various incarnations of Slash they have encountered are just their parents dressed up. This explains why Slash appears to be everywhere at once, even playing a show in Moscow and in Colorado Springs in the same afternoon. Once the deal with EA Sports is signed, the boys learn from their contract with Peter Moore, the head of EA Sports, that his company now owns the rights to the Crack Baby Athletic Association and will keep all the revenue. Kyle is crushed over the end of his orphanage project, while Cartman and the others are mostly still in shock about the revelation that Slash does not exist. At the end of the episode, Kyle and Stan discover that the orphanage has been miraculously built. They also find a guitar and hat belonging to Slash inside. Kyle is overjoyed, and everyone's faith in Slash is restored.

Yep. I mean if you add up the playoffs drought of those 4 teams alone it's at least double my age.

Like I said, I chose teams based off success, as soon as failure it's I split.

Not to mention being a pro sports fan would become extremely difficult for most of us.

  • I've only been a fan of two schools in my life. Alabama, which numerous friends grew up fans of who had family who attended, and where I am now a student. The other is Maryland, mainly basketball, because it is my father's alma mater and I grew up watching games with him. All of this started before I was a student. So, yeah.

I've heard people say if you're not from the same city/state as a pro team you shouldn't root for them.

If you are a fan you are a fan, end of story.

I don't GAS if you cheer for Heat, Yankees, Red Wings, Bama, UNC, and Giants. If you are emotionally attached, watch when you can, cheer your ass off you are a fan.

Unfortunately my teams generally suck, but it is what it is.

Same here when Michigan went 3 and 9 I completely quit watching lol.

My favorite thing about being called a bandwagon fan is I'm from a Detroit suburb and the wings aren't even my favorite team. Yep I'm such a bandwagoner.

I'm a hardcore WhiteSox fan, how is that working out for me right now? in 2005 Chicago was overrun with Sox fans, people saying "Ive been a fan my whole life" BS! Where were you when we had a half full stadium? even the Cubs fan were rooting for us to win the WS. They said "youd do the same if we were in it". No I wouldn't! I'd be sneaking billy goats into the stadium, just to jinx you for another 100 years. I'd find Bartman and pay him $100,000 just to go to the game. I don't get band wagon fans. The bad years are what make the good so good. "Pleasure wouldn't feel so good if it wasn't for pain".

only jersey (authentic) I ever bought was an Urlacher jersey for me, Gayle Sayers for my dad, and Butkis for my Grandpa. Came really close to buying a Mark Buehrle jersey but never did thank god.
