Auburn 2010...

  • Why does everyone scurry to crediting Malzahn and Newton for that year? Nick Fairley singlehandedly changed games for that offense to make plays. I don't think they go undefeated without him. Thoughts?

    I apologize if I misled. This is not a knock on Auburn's coaching situation. This is an observation I made looking back on that team. I think Malzahn will be a great fit for the Auburn community.

    Y'all hired a coach from Arkansas State in his first year on the job.

    Arkansas hired a coach from Wisconsin who has had his team in three straight Rose Bowls.

    Tennessee hired a coach from Cincy who has won or shared a conference championship in four of six years.

    In conclusion... Auburn sucks.

    Fairley was huge, but our pass D was so bad that we would have lost 4 games without Malzahn.

    Thanks for a response! +1. Most of my opinion comes from the Alabama and LSU games. He destroyed that LSU o-line, and then forced the turnover in that 'Bama game that fired up the offense to get going. Special year for ya'll!

    I'm sorry but that is such a dumb post. Cam and Gus were %85 of why Auburn won the MNC and if you believe Fairly was the reason over Cam/Gus, then I really don't know what to say.

    i think you meant to say without Cam running the offense because the same guy's scheme won 7 games in 2009 and 2011.

    Auburn could have done worse & imo he's got a fighting chance to equal Chizik's (33*-19) four year W/L record at aU (7.5 X 4=30 / 5.5 X 4=22).

    Yes Cam is the greatest blah blah blah but In 2009 Malzahn still broke tons of records with Chris Todd, plus we had a 14 point lead in every game but 2. The second year in a system almost always sees great improvement for most teams with new staffs. Fast forward to 2011 and 35 players were gone and we used undeveloped players and Chiz slowed down Gus. Gus had tons to do with Cams performance.

    If, and only if, BB can get good recruits on the OL he will have success at Ark. If there's one thing he is good at, that's developing OL and RBs. He's only had one decent QB in Russel Wilson, and his defenses haven't ever really been that stellar. He's had good teams, but no elite real good teams. It's a lateral move to me. I think he will be 8/9 win a season there at Ark. Pretty much what he was at Wisc.

    We'll see, his defense will largely depend on his DC, IMO. If he hires a good one, you will get a good defense. He struggled in developing QBs though, which showed in his playstyle. There was one game during the RichRod years (I don't want to remember this). He ran one play all of the second have. Power Run. Expect your offense to somewhat resemble Alabama except more FB.

    Had a 14 pt lead in all games but 2 but finished 7 and 5? Wow. that would blow.
