Auburn Fans Lets Just Get An Honest Answer From Yall ...

Are yall embarrassed? I know as a fan you have to try and save face knowing Malzahns is going to be your coach no matter how much you gripe but do you feel as though your school has let you down as a fan?

It just seems to me Jay Jacobs and the administration just took a guy they were familiar with and did not do your school justice in finding a proven winner/leader. Malzahn feels to me like the administration was backed into a corner and just took someone to safe face with some fans who will think its going to be "Cam Like" years under Malzahn all over again.

    Tre Mason will equal gawdlike.

In 2009 Auburns offense, including Chris Todd was atrocious In SEC play. He had 4 TD's and 7 INT's. Auburn ranked 9th in passing offense in 2009 against SEC opponents. This water Into wine story a out Chris Todd is a big OL fat myth and any good stats he had came against terrible competition. I think Auburn was 5th in scoring offense as well.

Not sure I agree with you. Chris Todd by no means set the world on fire. He set the AU TD record (the one I was mentioning above) and Malzahn's offense set records for total offense for the season. AU did struggle against stiffer competition, but was producing. Moreover, they were balanced for more the most part. If the pass was not producing, the run game was, etc.

The two links below are Chris Todd's individual game statistics. The other is the team statistics for each game in 2009. Pretty good balance for an 8-5 team who I believed was pretty mediocre.

Bama fans: Listen to me. I understand your urge to simply gloat the night away. You are riding high. We, as Auburn fans, understand that. We are not overly thrilled with our coaching hire. But to simply sweep Malzahn away as a non-factor whatsoever under all circumstances going into the future is foolish. I am not trying to rationalize this hire. It was a political bullshit decision made by our cracker jack administration. What else is there to say? As I have said many times on tBB: enjoy this time, Bama faithful, because it will come to end. Your own history, if anything else, should have taught you that. Congrats on making the NCG.

Yes I did ... Im not sure how our fanbase could be embarrassed with an 85-20 record

Im asking yall if your embarrassed that your administration could only end up hiring Gus Malzahn when the fanbase was expecting so much more. The lack of effort your AD put into this hire is alarming if Im a donor or fan of the program.

Your coach eats grass, has a grotesque wife, and makes bonehead calls to lose games.

    Laugh Out LOUD!

You Barners are pathetic. The only real shot you guys had and slowing down the Alabama machine would have been to get Kirby AND pull Scott Cochran with him. Not just by having them in your program but by the loss it would mean with Bama. Those guys are real deal coaches, not coaches that were coaching High School football just 8 years ago and only got the call up to the college level was to four top recruits from the high school he coached at.

It must suck having to grasp for any loss/bad thing to make fun of when it comes to Bama these days. Gotta be tough when we've lost fewer games the past 5 seasons than AU did this year.

I mean...the A&M loss meant essentially nothing. Didn't keep us from ATL or Miami. Pickin's are slim these days...

    Btw, hahaha Gus Malzahn hahaha.

Nick Saban has lost 6 games in 5 years. He doesn't really struggle with anyone. Another myth. 4 of those losses didn't come from a Hurry up offense. he'll figure out a way to adapt of he struggles. That's why he's the greatest coach of this generation.

  • funny things about the kristi malzahn hire:
last year all we heard from aub fans...'yeah!! power football' smash mouth football, prosch, tight ends...no more spread finesse football.

As a Bama fan i love the hire. it's like hiring the 'substitute' teacher..discipline will continue to be an issue. pfd will continue to reign over the program. this hire set the 'family' back a few years.

one question: can kristi malzahn get those players to follow off season conditioning? it was clearly optional under chiznik.

dear barn:...hire ellis johnson...signed...sec offensive coordinators.

  • I don't know if you can really say AU didn't try to get someone better than Gus. Several names were linked to the search and there were rumors of contact. But nobody is going to come out and say they turned the Tigers down. But if you are going after a big time name HC why would they leave a good job to deal with an NCAA investigation and but heads with Bama and LSU every year?

It's 7 losses in 5 years. Two fewer than Auburn lost in 2012 alone so still good. As for the HUNH, 2 of our losses came to LSU which isn't a HUNH spread team. Another came to USCe which isn't either. 4 of those losses did come to teams that run that type of offense...3 of those teams had Heisman trophy winners running the show. So, if Auburn plans on beating Saban with Malzahn's offense and what will almost assuredly be a bad defense, he better find another Cam, a Tebow, or a Manziel. They don't exactly grow on trees and the last few QB's Malzahn recruited to Auburn outside of Cam, who fell in your laps because he got booted from Florida and his dad tried to sell him to MSU, were complete busts (Rollison, Frazier, Pike). Good luck.

  • RTR,

Who are you trying to convince? Yourself? It's not like someone is going to dispute this. But Frazier was never going to run a pro-style system. Honestly, we don't actually know whether he will be good or not. Chizik and that slapdick Loeffler destroyed his confidence. Sans this past year, Frazier has run some form of the Malzahn offense since 9th grade. We won't know whether he will actually succeed until he is in that role. If he can't win the starting QB job now, then we know KF is crap.

As with everything else, we will have to wait and see.

I don't doubt that the QB's on AU's roster plus the Johnson kid coming in will be better in Malzahn's offense than Loeffler's. I just don't think Frazier will ever be legitimately good. His decision making, mechanics, and accuracy are dogsh*t. It's too early to tell on Wallace but his other offers being basically strictly from the Sun Belt, no other BCS offers, leads me to believe he likely won't be anything special. I also don't believe Malzahn's offense will work in the SEC long term especially when its success will hinder the defense and again, I think he has to prove himself as an SEC recruiter considering some of the questionable characters/talents he brought to Auburn.

Like you said, we'll see. I just think the guy is in over his head. He has been a HC for one year and that was at a Sun Belt school. He took over a team that was 10-2 the year before and went 9-3. He's a complete unknown as a HC.
