Auburn Fans - Scott Loeffler - Leading VT OC Candidate

  • He would have a good to great D backing him up and Beamer likes pro-style O. Thomas had a down year but ceiling is high if he does not bolt to NFL. Decent RB's comin off RS.

    Any thoughts, tidbits to share with Hokie fans on this dude ?

    Hard to say in the short amount of time he was at Auburn really what kind of coach he was.

    One thing is for sure though, Auburn's assistants have a track record of having much more success the next year after leaving Auburn than they did the year prior to leaving.

    Of course, in his case, it can't get worse either.

    No.... Rocker was great at Auburn before and after. Malzahn was great as an OC while he was here and didn't get better after. So the only assistant you can say that about is Roof. I'll give you Roof but that's not a track record of doing it...

    I was speaking to the year prior to leaving only and mainly just including Cordinators.

    Malzhan wasn't great in 2011 and did better in 2012.
    Roof obviously was better in 2012.
    Paul Rhodes obviously has been better at Iowa St than he was at DC in 2008.

    Wasn't even speaking just Chizik's staff. That is the last 3 cordinators to get jobs after leaving Auburn, correct?

    Well, in Roof's case, he did have a tremendous bump up in talent when he moved from AU's defense to Penn State's defense. He had Jordan Hill, Gerald Hodges, and Michael Mauti, all players who will get drafted and stick around on rosters for a long time (except Mauti, who may get robbed of that chance since he's had such horrible luck with injuries).

    When we played teams with well coached offenses (Nebraska, Ohio State, Ohio), we gave up quite a bit of points (32, 28, 24), and frankly I wasn't impressed with Roof against the higher caliber coaches in the conference.

    The real test would have been what he did next year without the good senior class. Now that he's at GT, who knows how he'll do.

    Just FYI, but our record book at RB, is also the record in the ACC. We will never have a great QB book, under Beamer at least.

  • Thanks for all the responses.

    Most posts that were somewhat free of judgement and full of facts say that the VT offense has been pedestrian - hence our relative excitement now that Beamer has made a change.

    We've been pretty good at winning tho.

    As Hokie fans we all hope that this past year was an anomaly and Beamer knows how to win 10 again.

    D will be $ again. Clearly the jury is still out on how good the O can be with new leadership.

    Bama Chicken Kick thing will not be even as bad as #1 ND debacle or 42-0.

    Not going to predict a score but 42-0 and 42-14 ain't it.

    VT will show up ready to play with a legit Top 10 D.

    O ? Yep. ? Reason for thread.

  • Actually Loeffler is a very good coach. He's unfortunate to have been a part of the dumpster fire that is Auburn.

    He would be a good hire for VT.

    I actually worry that we look ahead to the Aggies and not focus on this game. I think we only beat them by 42.
