  • Kirk Herbstreit agrees wholeheartedly, and I think it's a legitimate gripe. But what's a better system? 16 team playoff? No more conference tie-ins to bowl games? More ridiculous "rules" governing who is eligible based on wins/rank/standings? I fear it's only going to get worse.

  • Yep. I wish it was back to the good 'ol days when the bowls got to pick who they wanted with no stipulations. Enough of this "everybody gets a shot" BS. It's killing the bowls.

    The better system is to have the bowls (including the ones in the 4 team playoff) select who they want.

  • It's the method that the BCS uses to get around anti-trust lawsuits. It's not a football decision.

    Fact is that the fans just don't matter anymore. Nobody on top cares what the masses want. And nobody cares what would be "good" football games. All about money, whether making it, keeping it, keeping it out of other people's hands, etc.

We could then have all bowls bid for the predetermined matchups. That way all matchups would be made due to accomplishments on the field and intrigue of contrasting styles or storylines and not do to contracts.

  • I actually like a 12 game season, with a 12 team playoff.

    Top 4 get byes
    5-12 play round one

    then you have an 8 man round(assume majority of top 4 win round two, so only 1 extra game for 5-12)

    Down to final 4 (two teams play extra game, two teams play two extra unless somehow a seed #5-12 goes to championship, which is unlikely, they play 15 games or about what div 2 does)

    Because they would get pressured by the lesser conferences/teams to "include the little guy". Since they would be an official committee, that would open the possibility of a lawsuit if they ignored the smaller schools. If the power went to the bowls, no lawsuit would be possible.

  • I stole this from a commentator (Oklahoma fan) on EDSBS because it's brilliant...

    An obviously sub-standard team made it in over us. They have 1 (ONE!) win over a top 25 team, and they lost to a team that didn’t even sniff the top 25 all year, whereas OU’s only losses were to top 5 teams. Oh sure, they won their conference, but that conference is awful awful awful. I mean, they even had something taken from them by NC State this year! I don’t think it’s too late in the process to change the bowl matchups, and I hope the Orange Bowl committee will do the right thing and rescind their invite to FSU.

    Umm, why would you have OSU in the Rose Bowl?? Had they not have been on probation they'd probably have faced us in the BCS NC game..
