Bad News for any conference other than the SEC

  • when the playoffs start there will be two teams in the N C game more than you will like, the SEC will continue to be the strongest when it is all said and done.

  • my questions is why is it referred to as the SEc when all that matters is Alabama and Florida with a very occasional LSU?

  • I think he might be trying to imply that there could be numerous times that the title game would be all SEC match ups. This would be bad for tv ratings.

And bad TV ratings would make the NCAA/Bowl Committee rethink the playoff idea. The preseason polls is what puts an SEC team in the game most years. They start 6 SEC schools so high up in the rankings its almost impossible for one not to make it in.

    No polls until week 8.

But that would take money away from all the publications that do preseason magazines, columns, ect...

its a never ending circle of failure that will never be perfectly fair because of money.

That wouldn't change the SEC being dominant... They usually have one team out if the conference that has a legit shot at getting in every year... Auburn was barely ranked the year they won it....

Auburn also went undefeated. Any undefeated BCS team gets in. If they would have had a loss, they wouldn't have gotten in, unlike Bama who started the year #1, and only lost 3 spots when they lost to A&M.

Any undefeated BCS team gets in? You mean like the previous Auburn team that went undefeated in 2004 and got snubbed? Yeah, try again.

  • This is only an issue if we go to an 8 team playoff. Look at UGA who was probably the 2nd or 3rd ranked team in the country, but dropped below that in the SECCG. So I still think it will be rare that 2 SEC teams get in to the top 4 in a playoff... Top 8?? Then they'd have some issues w/ this.

    VegasTide

  • I think the playoff system will HURT the SEC in a couple ways. Number 1, it draws out a longer season from an already brutal slate. Number 2, in all likelihood this past year, different style of teams will be put in it like this past year. You would have Oregon and K State in it and if Bama drew Oregon in game one, you get a completely different style of team than you do with say a K State in the final.

Just remember this with playoff system/tournament. ANYTHING can happen and if you don't believe me, ask guys like Jim Beoheim at Syracuse why he only has one ring. It's SO hard to do with a tournament and if they ever expand it to 8, it will be a crap shoot who wins it every year.

    CoachGomez214

  • And in my opinion, they will be VERY hard pressed to put 3 out of the 4 teams as SEC teams and if so, what if the rankings had them head to head in the first round? Already one would be out. I like the playoff system due to the SEC bias and that it gives others a legitimate chance. However, the SEC has proved time and time again that it IS the best conference so it rightfully deserves that bias.

I agree. At the end of the year the polls they have are indicative of who the best teams are and look at the entire resume more or less

judging by the SEC's performance by its top 2 teams in BCS bowls this year, there still would have been 1 team. Just because Bama is creating a dynasty DOESN'T mean the rest of the SEC is NC caliber. There are really 3 teams that have been really good (Auburn does not count), so I really don't understand all the SEC chest thumping by other schools. Georgia, SC, Arky, Miss St., Ole Miss etc. haven't done anything great lately soooo... I disagree.

Kinda like Oregon only dropped 3 spots when they lost to Stanford? Why are you not complaining about that?

Also, USC was preseason #1, followed by LSU and Bama.

This would be semi-logical thinking if an SEC team had ever lost a NC. Since they haven't....who really cares how they got there, if they showed they deserved to be there by winning?

Which SEC that wound up in the top ten, ended there because of where they started?

The polls were pretty accurate outside of SoCal, OU, LSU and FSU weren't as good as they expected in the top 10(and only one of those was an SEC school). Tamu didnt start top 20 I dont believe. Carolina, Bama and Georgia all finished right about where they began. UF was bottom of top 25. I dont think your argument is a very good one
