I'm glad you posted that vid. I found it interesting that he can occasionally throw a decent pass, but that he looks a good bit slower than I expected. tOSU have concrete in their cleats? Seriously, he's fast...just not as fast as people always talked. And he looks like a shorter, slightly quicker version of J. Jefferson. It's encouraging to see for our new young starters, I'm sure.

    Who watches B10 football?

You can't really believe that, can you?

    Just stop.

Cam wasnt very accurate in college but he wasn't nearly as bad as Denard can be when he throws off his back foot and lobs it up. Denard is a bigger home run threat than Cam was and does have some incredible speed and elusiveness, but a comparison to Cam Newton is just dumb. What you're not taking into consideration, is that Cam is 6'5" 250 pounds. He trucked people in the SEC, Denard gets hurt and comes out in most games where someone gets a good hit on him. I love Denard for what he can he's a very successful college quarterback but he isn't Cam Newton.

You are correct in that Denard and Cam are very different players but that does not mean that both are not elite college QBs. Nothing you said shows that Denard is not an elite talent at QB at the college level.

Not on the same planet as Cam.

Never been anyone like Cam. If he keeps his head clear. And stays healthy. He'll own the game.

Didn't say he was. But Denard doesn't need to be Cam to be an elite talent at QB.

Read the post it's about Denard not being 'elite,' which (in college football) he is. Those are very specific terms.

Michael Vick is a better comparison for Denard Robinson's game than Cam Newton.

  • As for the game, Michigan definitely isn't on Alabama's level right now but I think the game being played in the first week will serve as an equalizer. IIRC Penn State kept things pretty close for most of the game last year and their offense was in way worse shape than ours. I think we'll be able to keep it close and maybe even pull off the upset but I'm expecting a Bama win in a low scoring game. I'm just happy for the exposure it will bring.

That game was also in happy valley. This will be a neutral field.

Put Denard up against an elite defense and who wins? I think he's great at what he does but a defense with good speed won't let him get to the edges and once you do that it's pretty much game over and hope the defense can keep us in it. That what MSU did and I think Bama will too but it's a whole new year and Denard's second under Borges so hopefully I'm wrong.

Vick could tie 1 ankle to his throat, torture 2 dogs, and simultaneously outplay Denard Robinson.

  • I'm calling a Bama win 34-6. Bama passes the eye test of an elite team and UM failed the eye test every game last year, save the Nebraska game.

And I guarantee that Saban has some repressed hatred for UM from his days as MSU DC/HC. It could end up being just as ugly as the Cap One Bowl, but without Saban calling off the dogs.

They're both elite dual-threat quarterbacks (on a college level) that had a lot of the same knocks on them going into their senior seasons. Right now, the comparison ends there.

  • 31-13 Bama. Maybe 31-17

    Reasons:

    **Offense--

OL: Barrett, Fluker, Warmack, Cyrus -- slew of talent and experience. Our fifth is Steen who started last year and is strong as an ox so I wouldn't consider him a weak point at all.

QB: AJ is growing up quickly at QB and with protection, he should be able to sling it better than he receives credit for

WR: Although the WR's are still young, this is the most well rounded, deep WR corps we have fielded in a long time though some will argue we are missing the home run/go-to Julio type

RB: Does this matter? We are deep anyways. Everyone knows this position will produce

TE: Michael Williams. Been doing it for years. Really makes our OL even more fierce with the blocking as he is probably one of the best blockers in college.

H-Back: Meh.. Weakr, less experienced spot for game one at least

    **Defense--

DL: Jesse and Square returning is huge.. I really think Jesse will have an incredible year. Which leads to..

LB: Nico and CJ are premier talents. I believe Hubbard (who is said to be one of the best athletes on the team) is going to emerge as our sack leader by a large margin this year. Depriest/backups are not even close to being slouch.

DB: Here is our question mark. We know Milliner and Lester can play. Hell, we even know Vinnie can.. But that 2nd corner spot is what we are looking at. Especially considering that Denard is going to HAVE to throw the ball. We will qb spy, qb contain, or blitz him every play (yes, sounds somewhat broad and simple but it really isn't if you actually think about).

ST: All kickers and punters returning thank lord. Though that doesn't make them strong.. Christion Jones showed flashes of his return ability and athleticism in BCSNC

    Conclusion and opinion:

I just see Bama's trenches being too much to handle throughout the course of four quarters. No disrespect as it has happened game after game to almost every team. The OL will allow a smash mouth game but also give AJ time to sling it when needed. People worry about our D like there is no talent and not coached by the best defensive mind in the game who has has 8 months to prepare. I believe the D will be there and feel like I have adequate reasons for believing that. To UM's respect, it looks like they are headed in the right direction under CBH. However, do not get too far ahead of yourselves, you are playing a team that is four years ahead of you and in currently in reload mode. Your peak is still ahead of y'all if you stay on last year's track. Fortunately, you guys have a quality amount of experience returning and that leadership and knowledge may be able to perform wonders.

I would not consider Denard an elite QB. He's an exciting player but he's far from elite. I would consider elite college QB's to be like Matt Leinart, Cam Newton, Vince Young, Tim Tebow, and so on. Not Denard Robinson.
