But Athlon Sports says that Denard is electrifying!

He is, against mediocre Big 10 defenses. Not such much against the SEC ala Mississppi St.

Do you honestly believe that Denard is going to make a big run against a D like that of Bama? He hasn't made a truly big play against a legit D yet, much less an Alabama monster D.

I keep hearing "he never plays well against a good defense."

Well, let's look deeper at that claim with the 3 games I mentioned above (and we'll use MSU's points against these teams as a reference point).

Denard scored 24 points against Nebraska.
    Michigan State scored 3.

Denard scored 30 points against Ohio State
    Michigan State scored 10.

Denard scored 30 points against Notre Dame.
    Michigan State scored 13.

    lol

Seriously though, I hate to call someone delusional, but you have to be either a huge hype-buyer or a Blue Kool-Aid drinker to honestly believe that Denard Robinson is an elite quarterback. If I had the chance to trade Maxwell for Denard, I wouldn't. I think that the vast majority of other teams would say the same- that's a pretty big disqualifier for elite status.

Btw, I tried to PM you back, but I'm banned on my home board so it can't send, not giving a cold shoulder lol.

If the big ten defenses are so mediocre, why is the SEC only 15-12 (not including OSU over Arkansas which was forfeited) which is only a 56% win percentage head to head in bowl games the last ten years?

The matchups between the SEC and Big 10 are usually matching up the 2-5 teams in the conference too so it isn't like matching up any scrubs here.

Bringing up the Mississippi State game is fine, but he was also a first year starter true sophmore in that game and our defense sucked so he was trying way too hard as a first year starter to keep us in the game. Not the same comparision as a senior starter going into this game.

I fully expect to lose this game. My estimate is 16 points.
I think either Alabama just grinds it out in the end or Michigan is making a comeback and has a bad turnover near the end and Alabama tacks on more points.

I am really excited for the game though.

If everything goes right for Michigan, I do think we can win this game.

  • Yeh I talk bad about the bammers but realistically I highly doubt you guys beat them. I think you have the talent to do it, but in the end bama has so much more. Im thinking 17-10 at halftime.......31-17 final.

I wish this game was 3 years from now. The way Mattison and Hoke are recruiting, I think we have a shot at being more on an even level at that time.

  • I can agree with the point margin, but I think the point total is too high as both of the teams have very good defenses. I'd lower it by a touchdown for both teams.

Ill admit Hoke has impressed me so far. You guys are heading in the right direction and i would much rather see you guys make it back than somebody like Notre Dame. I wish LSU would schedule a game with Michigan. Imagine the storyline with that game. I love it when my Tigers play these big non-conference opponents every year.

    I would love that.
I used to have a roommate who was an LSU fan during the 2004-05 season.
We made bets for our bowl games, $50 a piece.

    Both were heartbreakers.

Vince Young would not be denied and the Iowa pass to win on the last play of the game instead of playing for a field goal to go to overtime.

    We were both devestated.

Edit: Minnesota also beat Alabama that year.

    Just stop.

Cam wasnt very accurate in college but he wasn't nearly as bad as Denard can be when he throws off his back foot and lobs it up. Denard is a bigger home run threat than Cam was and does have some incredible speed and elusiveness, but a comparison to Cam Newton is just dumb. What you're not taking into consideration, is that Cam is 6'5" 250 pounds. He trucked people in the SEC, Denard gets hurt and comes out in most games where someone gets a good hit on him. I love Denard for what he can he's a very successful college quarterback but he isn't Cam Newton.

Denard has started every game the last 2 years.

I watched enough of the sugar bowl. 9/21 for 117 yards and a INT. VT tech had a solid defense but facing us is a whole other animal.

O because you already know that with all the new starters on D that you won't miss a beat....

roflmao Dude Michigan is almost there and if you don't believe the game will be close, you are a blind homer. Probably going to be 24-21 with a toss up with who wins.

24-21 toss up? I look at that and say Alabama will win by 21 to 24 points. If you want your Wolverines to have a chance to win the little 10 this year you better hope your QB pulls a Hammy in practice the week before the game and has to sit this one out. I predict that if DR crosses the line of scrimmage more than 5 times in this game then he will not make it out of the 3rd quarter. This game will be a blow out and CNS will call off the dogs at half time.

I don't see this happening. Saban had to deal with UM's BS at MSU for 5 years (his 99 team got snubbed by the BCS in favor of Michigan, despite the fact that MSU had the same record an soundly beat UM head to head [sounds a hell of a lot like 2011]), he's going to enjoy grinding UM into dust. If I remember correctly, Saban still wears green every year to his press conferences on the week of the MSU-UM game.

He might take some starters out to protect against injury once he's up 28 or 35, but I would bet money that he'll still be throwing deep balls and blitzing Robinson.

So many people think this defense will be similar to the 2010 which is just flat out wrong. That 2010 D was top 10 nationally and this one will be better. We have more guys with starting experience and have logged more minutes.

That's not the point, Bama is replacing a lot of talent. They could be the top defense in the country, or they could be only a top 20 defense. The point is that it is somewhat of an unknown right now. And FWIW, my guess is Bama 24-14.

  • I think Michigan will be within 10 pts at the half, but ultimately they'll lose by about 25 pts. I hate to admit it but Alabama has superior talent at nearly every position and the longer the game goes on, the more it will show.

no Bama fans said he was an average DB / good playmaker / midget defender

i like Denard's skill set & love to watch Mighigan football but Vegas has this one right - it'll be double digits .

  • The difference with Alabama's D this year is not the talent, but the leadership with hightower and baron gone. Alabama lost 3 games in 2010 bc of lack of leadership, but found leaders in 2011. If they find the vocal leader, they will be number one on D, but if they don't it will just be top 10 which is still good enough to beat Michigan in my opinion. I talk a lot of crap about bama bc they are our biggest rival right now, but reality is Denard hasn't faced an SEC defense yet. Like I said earlier I think Denard is very good and mobile and could cause bama some problems, but these SEC defenses are something special.

FACT: It will be close in the first quarter and maybe through half of the second and then the pounding will ensue!! OR....It could end up as the BAMA - Michigan State bowl game and be a complete A$$ smoking ...

Bama lost so much last year, you are really underestimating the fact that it is the first game Bama's defense will all be playing together and it takes time to gel.

Penn State was able to keep it close last season when Bama was still getting it together and they had a terrible offense along with mediocre defense.
