Honestly, I understand that he has players(mostly upperclassmen) that are voted to be a part of a team council. They hold the other guys repsonsible and actually take a vote and make recommendations on punishment when rules are violated. Obviously, punishment is ultimately decided by Coach Saban but I thought this was a great way of hold players accountable to their peers and fellow teammates.
I'm sure he emphasizes from day one the standards and code of conduct he expects from each player. There is a great emphasis on education and off the field behavior. They know the consequences if they misbehave.
To a degree though, these are 18-21 year old kids. We have just been fortunate to have very few problem kids the past 3-4 years. That's just reality.

lol bammer had a ton of players arrested during Saban's first two or threee years and then he met with the Tuscaloser mayor and chief of police and ordered them to stop arresting bammer players. That might seem like a joke, but it is absolutely true. That is why you have had two bammer players sued by regular students for beating the crap out of them, but the players were never arrested by the police. That is why you have also had a couple of bammer players arrested in other cities

There is a "point system" in place that takes into consideration such things as class/tutoring session attendance and performance as well as on field/practice effort. There is also a team leadership council and a group of team rules that if violated, carry specific punishments if not adhered to. My father-in-law had a very similar discipline system when he was coaching. It worked well at both universities he coached at. It is not perfect but very effective and a system that his players considered to be very fair.
