I thought so. I really want to know about that Foster kid, Wr from Pa. I read somewhere that we have a legitimate shot at landing him.

It could have changed after today but it lists him as cool on all of his interests other than Penn State and Pitt. I would say that isn't a good sign when the kid is from Pa. I really don't know much about him but that's at least how I see the situation. A lot of time to impress him though.

Yeah, that hasn't update since his visit to Bama.

It was reported a while ago that he's visiting with his 7v7 team to our spring game next weekend. Still need to confirm that, though, as he hasn't mentioned it in any recent articles.

We really needed Averett a lot more than you guys did. I guess after Hackenberg we had to let you guys win one of the battles. cheers

Seriously though...in the Averett article, he says "Their academics were second in the BCS and that's something that's important to me, too."

Someone want to explain that one to me? Obviously not important enough to him to do a little research on the topic...

not sure but we are in the top 5.

Not sure I believe that. I can guarantee you that schools like Vandy, Illinois, Virginia, Cal, USC, Duke, North Carolina and a few others put that argument to bed.

have you seen his film? kid is legit. I agree he may end up staying close to home but coming down for the spring is a good sign of interest.

Just watched it and he is a hell of a player. I would love to get him and haven't heard any update on his visit. I was merely going by the fact that this site listed all of his other schools interest as cool other than Penn State and Pitt. It's good that he came down though. You never know what could happen when someone is on a visit. I'll be looking forward to hearing how he enjoyed his visit this weekend.

BCS has its own ranking for academics and we are in the top 5. I think that is what the recruit bills62 is referring to mentioned. Among overall D1 colleges no we are not #2 or in the top 5.

Pretty sure that deals with our APR. Say what you want about Saban, his players graduate.

I think Jon Fulton started today. I know that he was playing a LOT with the 1's. He's also still young.

John Fulton will play a lot this year. Dude hasn't been able to do a lot due to players like milliner, Kirkpatrick, and Menzie.

I originally thought like you and thought he wasnt gonna do anything. Apparently this spring proved me wrong.

i wouldnt call either recruiting battles but more so Bama going into someone else's recruiting area & plucking a gem .
nevertheless Hack was a very good get for you guys.

as for the latest pair of Bama commit's ? Averett fills a need in the Class of 13 and will likely get his 1st look wearing Crimson
at corner , while speedy Deon Johnson is destined to play WR (slot) for the Tide.

wouldnt be suprised if a QB and DE are among the next Tide pledges .

Ellis Johnson is a pretty darn good defensive coach if you ask me.

If he told Fulton that he would probably start early at South Carolina, but would have to compete for starting time with many other talented DB's already at Bama, I would say that he was probably correct.

Will Fulton end up being a better player for the competition? Probably so.

    BetterOff

  • Fulton was running with Wr's step for step. I think he starts along with Milliner and Belue. Dixon might be the odd man out and I'm wondering if he ends up redshirting.

Bama had a 69% graduation rate last year. That is not that good. Definitely not a top 5 in any list, top 25 or not. Maybe he got something mixed up and meant to say Top 5 and refer to that research that came out around October of the top 25 BCS teams that I think someone referenced here.

Is 69% the general student population? The general athlete percentile? Or is it football? In football all those that could graduate did. We did lose some players before they graduated though (Richardson and Kirkpatrick).

Our APR numbers for 2010 (2011's have not been released yet I don't think), we were 2nd with like a 990. I know before that we had a 978. Bama academics is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was 10 years ago. President, soon to be Chancellor of the UA system, Witt came in a blew up some of the departments and completely revitalized the academics at Bama. I know as a graduate from the school of engineering he more than doubled the amount of classrooms and staff. Best President the University has had in ages.

Now is Bama better than Vandy, UVA, or Stanford? No. We're not in the same stratosphere as them. However, its nothing like it used to be and I'd put it on par with many of these Big 10 schools that like to brag so much about their academics.
