Bama posters....serious question ITT

  • There have been many prognostications and predictions about who, if Chizik indeed gets fired, should Auburn hire as the man to succeed him. Pretty much all of them have been met with various lulzy responses. Granted, I am of the mind that none of the obvious candidates really set the world on fire for me (Petrino, Jimbo, Strong, etc.).

Question is this: Is there a coach, living today and still coaching and relevant, that we could hire that would give you all even a moments pause in regards to the thought of, "oh, well they aren't playing around. We raised the bar with the Saban hire, and they went out and met it/came damn close."

I guess my point is, it really doesn't matter to any of you who AU hires (if indeed we chose to fire CGC, which I believe should happen btw). Any new coach will be met with the same reaction by all of you: "meh," or "not impressed," or "another lamb to Saban's slaughterhouse."

(Aside: not trying to pick any fights with this one, ala Aubie25. Seriously want to hear your responses).

  • Harbaugh(if that were possible)

But a realistic option(more likely than Harbaugh that is) would be Al Golden, I really think he is gonna be a great one.

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

Haha, yeah Harbaugh would be a dream honestly. Golden is an interesting thought. He has been dealt a pretty bad hand (not the team, Miami fans, the looming NCAA sanctions) at the U. Would be an interesting hire with his South FL connections.

  • Petrino with Van Gorder and Luper Lance Thompson TeeMartin and Badass Pro style OC. Then I'd be worried and watching Iron Bowl in 2nd half. You guys are screwed for the next 10 years until Saban turns 70. He turns 61 next week...AHHHaaaaa

    My thoughts:

Harbaugh - 0% (LTDing it up in San Fran)
Carroll - 1% (Finally got back to NFL, not leaving unless fired)
Gruden - 5% (Will take Browns or Vols job before AU)
Peterson - 10% (Looks like a BSU lifer to me)
Golden - 50% (Word is he is looking for a way out of the U b/c of oncoming sanctions)
    Tubberville - 0% (he's never coming back)

  • I still think Dan Mullen is a good coach and is attainable IMO. I know the whole Thing with Cam a couple years ago probably has auburn fans disliking him but I believe he can be a good one. I for one wouldn't worry if you got Mullen but I believe he could do good at auburn against every other team in the league.

He's a young Nick Saban. He knows exactly what has to happen to build a program like Saban has. He knows the defense like the back of his hand. His most important attribute is his ability to recruit Georgia. He's also universally lived by Alabama fans. I'm in the minority but I hope he's "HC in waiting" here and we just don't know it yet.

  • I'm not sure if anyone other than Harbaugh or Carroll would really accomplish that. Petrino would be a good hire, IMO, but he has flaws as well (not talking about personal life issues).

The thing that would make me pause would be if AU fired Jay Jacobs. That would signal a change more than anything, IMO. He has seen just about all of AU athletic programs sink to new lows during his tenure. It's time to go outside the family and it starts there, IMO.

The problem with Bobby Petrino is whoever hires him has to know full well that they are tying their own job to him. Everyone knows his past and everyone expects him to screw up again. Look, when your his age and you make mistakes like he did, those aren't once in a lifetime mistakes. Those are who you are. He's a good coach but a selfish, adulterous human being with no regard to who he hurts. Not even those in his immediate family. If he can hurt them, do Auburn fans really believe he won't eventually screw them? It's gonna happen. It's who he is.

good thoughts on bp...media back lash in state and nationally would be tremendous due to things you posted above.
whoever takes over the program will have to be given time to rebuild it.
the supposed great recruiting classes were way over rated and reflect kids who never made it or left within a year or two.
whoever takes the au job will need to be given time.
nobody out there scares me or causes me worry in the next couple of years based on what's going on at Bama and at au.

  • Agree with poster above, Butch Davis. I think Van Gorder is a clown, and Butch can recruit and knows defense. He won't back down from Saban. Not that Chizik has, to Chizik's credit. Butch is probably damaged goods though.

Also would worry a little about Charlie Strong. I think the only way right now that teams can compete with Bama is to be elite on defense. Either of those guys, IMO, could make Auburn tough and hard-nosed again.

And Petrino's teams have always been soft. Let's face it, currently, you have to hire and recruit to slay the beast in Tuscaloosa. LSU is built that way. To Chizik's credit, he was trying to go that route, but things have just spiraled out of control for all kinds of reasons.

Last thing to consider - I believe this with all my heart: you might be shocked out how much things could turn around if you shit-canned Trooper and Loeffler. Chizik and Van Gorder are defensive-minded guys. Bring in the right OC and continue to develop and transform your offensive identity. Would be interested in CaptAUmerica's thoughts on this.

Above all, GTFO of those gay practice shorts.

By the way - I HATE engaging in civil conversation with Barners. smoke

  • I think Gary Patterson would be a great hire. TCU runs a pro-style offense and they always have a really good defense. You never see them get lit up like all of the other defenses out there.

I agree with your point. If he screws up in the same manner then, yes you are correct. If he just doesn't have the success that the program that hires him expects for him to have, I don't think it is the same issue. As far as on the field, no one could say that he would be a bad hire and many ADs would have made the same move.

I am not saying he is in the same ballpark as Saban, but would anyone have really blamed Mal Moore if Saban had not been a success? No AD in the country wouldn't have made that hire if it was available to them.

carroll and harbaugh are the only hires that would be close to CNS. everyone else mentioned have questions about them.

They just gave up 56 to Texas Tech. Gave up 37 to Iowa State a few weeks ago.

Gave up 50 to Baylor last year, 40 to SMU, 28 to BYU, 35 to Boise.

  • Harbaugh or Les Miles. The last time Auburn was looking for a coach, nobody wanted it. They took GC because that was who they could get. Not sure why top guys could/would be attracted this time in a much worse environment.

He is a good coach, that's the point. The only way he would be fired is of the field stuff or he finds something better. It's happened before. Everywhere he's been.

  • 1. No to Al Golden, Gary Patterson, and Chris Peterson.
    2. No chance in hell we get Harbaugh or Carroll.
    3. If I were hired in place of Jay "I kill athletic programs" Jacobs, this is how I would do it.

Within the first 5 minutes of being hired I would bring in Chizik. I would hand him $7.5 million and tell him never show his face in Auburn again. Then I would bring in Jeff Grimes, Mike Pelton, Trooper Taylor, and Scot Leoffler.... I would do the same with those clowns... except for the 7.5 million, they can lick my butt and suck on my balls. Yes Blaise, I am talking about your dad... you know the guy who plays buddy buddy with every player... he can suck it.

So the remaining coaches would be:
    Luper- great recruiter.
    Thigpen- Great recruiter.
    BVG- DC
and our spec teams coach.... he is not going anywhere.

Then I would hire Bobby MF'n Petrino as my HC. He doesn't care about defense, so I firmly believe that he would let BVG hire who he wants. If he wants to fire Thigpen, he can... Thigpen is just a good recruiter. I would let Bobby hire whomever he wants. However if he wants to fire BVG, he may also do that. I would then overpay Butch Davis to be a DC for a few years and to get his name back. So in essence, I am running a coach rehab center. I want hungry coaches looking for redemption. I want them bc I believe they will do the right thing and only bang blondes on away games.

My one thing with Bobby is he HAS TO HIRE THE MEANEST SOB there is to coach the offensive line... Hugh Nallesque. I want to see chop blocking on the reg. I want the dirtiest offensive line in America because the current players are a bunch of vaginas, cough cough Patrick Miller.
And Bama's assisstant strength coordinator. Fvck Yox. He sucks... I don't get the love for him... look at our players getting their ass kicked every saturday.

so... yeah. I haven't taken my adhd meds yet, but that looks alright. Well, maybe I will come back and change it to a more professional approach. But you have to admit, that would be interesting.
