  • What do you remember about Melvin Ray. Apparently he is in school at Auburn now and if he can get his academics in order by fall will be playing. I don't remember anything about him.

He never stepped foot on campus. He went in the MLB draft. I remember him being tall and skinny and that is about it. I wouldn't think that there should be academic issues. Don't think he has even taken a single class til now.

  • Apparently there is some sort of NCAA rule where he has to be in school for X amount of time before he can play athletics due to him playing minor league baseball and if he passes his classes he will be eligible in the fall. At least that is how I understand it.

I think you are right. Something between 12 and 24 credit hours I believe. I thought you meant that he had bad grades or something, but I didn't remeber that being his problem. We had another kid that year that wasn't going to qualify and was drafted in the 7th or 8th round if I remember and he went MLB as well.

  • He was hitting on my ex-GF the other night. Bastard.

  • was a 4* wr in the 08 class (same as julio). that was a good wr class on paper, but aside from julio not so much in reality.

    besides julio, we signed:
5* - bj scott - never settled in anywhere after moving around from wr to db. moved on the a smaller school after soph year.
    4* - melvin ray - went mlb.
    4* - hood - also went mlb
4* - bolton te/wr hybrid- went juco and wanted to resign with bama in 10 class. wasn't a part of that class so don't know what happened.
3* - c. jones - have no idea what happened. never played much anyway, if he even ever made it to campus.

those are all rivals ratings, btw.

  • Hate he played baseball. Hate he went to auburn. He had a nice catch in high school that made the sport center top plays

  • We were very excited about his commitment - wanted him pretty bad. I had heard last year that he was coming or thinking about coming back to Bama and I was happy about that based upon the recruiting hype in '08. Can't remember more than that...

Don't like Rammer Jammer? Probably because you just lost to Bama... Get ready to hear it again... and often...

lol I'm not salty about it. Just thought it was funny. She texted me and asked if I knew who he was. I told her, and she said he said he was gonna start this year. I just said... I don't even know if he's on the team yet.

  • yea, remember him being pretty highly rated and his film was pretty decent. really was in need for some heavy WR so I think just about everyone thought this dude would come in and contribute - got drafted though, never made it to school.

if he can get eligible, you guys should have a pretty solid player.

Pretty sure grades were his problem. He was drafted in the 33rd round and decided to try MLB because I don't believe he was going to get into Bama. The only other person I remember that went MLB that year was Destin Hood. He was drafted in the 2nd round...don't think he had grade problems, but I don't think he ever planned on making it to campus anyway. Pretty sure he got a 7 figure signing bonus.

25 rule. He would have been a good prospect for us then but not now IMO.
