The real answer... They use both. They have their own 247Sports class ranking. And they have the 247Sports Composite ranking, which is an average of all recruiting sites. There is a tab to see both rankings.

It's not. Our official team rankings are based on the 247Composite. This gives fans a more complete and broader picture of how their class is evaluated by the recruiting industry in general. We have a viewing option where you can look at the classes evaluated by just our prospect rankings (on mobile it currently is the default, but that's a bug), but you won't hear us promote or talk about it.
We believe this is a great way to truly evaluate a recruiting class and it eliminates the notion of any bias or conspiracy (for example some fan bases are more prominent on certain networks than others) because it is reflective of the industry as a whole.
I guess we aren't insecure. We've all been in this business a lot longer than most of the folks at Rivals and just as long as the folks at Scout or ESPN. We are confident in our ability to rank and rate prospects and it doesn't bother us if we give fans a broader look.
