Here is the problem that I have. Whenever I ask the question, "what practical use do we have for hand guns, semi-autos and extended mags that cannot be done with a shotgun or rifle" I never get a direct answer. I wish people would just be honest and say "I like guns, I think that those kind of guns are cool and I don't want to give them up. They serve zero practical purpose for the general public, but I love them." Just be honest. And afterwords, grow up and realize that not everyone is responsible or mentally stable. I'm tired of this BS. I grew up around guns and I think they should never be taken away, but there is a difference between taking all guns away and reasonably limiting the type of gun you can own.

Fast powerful cars are unessesary too. Why do we have them?

Again the "assault rifle" argument is a red herring. The dumbass who murdered those kids didnt even use one. As for uses, I shoot competetive 3 gun. I would suggest anti gun people try it and you would realize they are just tools. Not inherently evil.

A nailgun is a tool but I prefer people that are using one in my presence at least talk to the tool specialist at Home Depot for 10 minutes and get a feel for operating it. That's all I want, education in proper usage.

You wouldn't hear me crying if they took steps to reduce the maximum legal speed of automobiles. I wouldn't be going with the "It's my right" argument to drive fast.

Are fast and powerful cars used as a tool for mass murder?

I've said numerous times in these threads that cars above a certain power/speed plateau should require a special license to own and operate. After Ferrari put out the Enzo over half of them had been wrecked in something like a year because the rich idiots who bought them couldn't handle the power. Much in the same way you have to (read: are supposed to) get a license or take a separate test to drive a bigger truck, a big rig, a motorcycle, or pull a big trailer (meaning your standard DL doesn't cover all of the above), I think there should be a designation for being allowed to handle tope of the line sports cars and super cars. They take way more skill to operate than some guys Volvo.

They should have a speed limiter on them like most cars these days.

    I gave you an answer.

You ever try to conceal a shotgun?

The assault rifle argument is stupid, as I stated already its nothing more than a higher velocity 22.

About 75% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border and their economy is extremely dependent on us. They are as close as you are going to find to our culture.

    Yet it works for them...

Location and economy have nothing to do with culture. Perhaps a dictionary may be of use to you?

No, you didn't give me a direct answer.

Conceal a shotgun? So are you saying it is easy to do? The point is to make it hard to walk around in public with a weapon. And, if you are saying "How can I walk about with a concealed weapon???"... sorry, you don't need one. Tell me one time when some guy with a concealed weapon prevented a crime. It doesn't happen.

That's not what I said. I said tell me of a citizen with a concealed weapon stopping a crime. Totally different.

I'm not calling for a ban on concealed weapons, but for every one crime that is stopped by a civilian with a CCL, how many more are not? But if we can stop one, it's worth it, right? I agree, which is why I'm calling for stricter regulations and requirements for certain types of weapons. If it stops one tragedy from happening it's worth it, no?

No. If CCL lead to extra crimes being able to be committed, it would take more prevention than additional crimes to produce a net benefit.

(I have no idea whether they do or not, but the discussion needs to include both additional crimes committed and crimes prevented.)

EDIT: Change 'no', to 'not necessarily'.

I'm all for stricter background checks for buying guns, but I'm not for bans on certain types of guns. I also don't agree with all felons not being able to purchase firearms. I know someone who made a mistake very early in their life by purchasing stolen property and is a convicted felon, but can't even own a firearm to hunt with. That is very dumb IMO. Felony DUI's are the same principle.

Get your head out of your ass. It happens A LOT. There are even a few caught on video.

To prove my point, and you'll have to trust me or look it up since I'm on my mobile, twice within TWELVE HOURS in cincy armed robberies were stopped by a citizen with a CCW. In one of the instances the civilian injured 3 and killed 1 of the robbers. In both instances not a single victim was harmed. Both happened in the last month or so. Just because you are a paranoid clueless individual does not mean I should forfeit my right to protect myself.

Thank you for proving my earlier statement true. The majority of gun control advocates, such as yourself, are f*cking clueless and brainwashed by the media.

You are saying that those factors have zero to do with culture? And you also want to refute the similarities Canada shares with the United States?

Then a dictionary won't be of use to you, because you obviously don't understand what you read.

Culturally we are extremely more diverse than Canada. To even attempt arguing otherwise is foolish.

Location and economy are not variables which come into play with a subject like gun control, sorry.

Nobody is arguing we aren't more diverse. The whole notion that what works other places, won't work here because of it, now that's foolish.

The one story wasn't a case of someone having a concealed weapon, and the other, the weapon did not prevent the crime.
