Barefoot Running Shoes

  • My feet are almost flat, so I can't wear all of the different types of barefoot running models. Are there any other runners on here with low arches that wear any of these types of shoes? (NB Minimus, Nike Free, etc.) I currently run in Karhu Strong3's and absolutely love them. That's the closest i've gotten to the aforementioned styles but I'm looking to delve into it more.

  • I still love my vibrams five fingers but these are my new favorites. Saucony Hattori. My only complaint with them is that sometimes they get a little sweaty because they don't really breath, if that makes sense.

Oh and I also have the New Balance Minimus and I hate them for running. I wear them when doing other workouts but not running. JMO

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

They are great. I'm glad to see someone else has them. I never see anyone with them.

  • I have a pair of the Vibram Bikila LS's and I love them. I use them mainly for walking a lot around campus and such.

Whoa I really want to try those out. I like the draw string much more than the velco strap I have on my old five fingers.

    Ever run in them?

  • I am wearing my NB Minimus even in the Winter. I went this morning in 35 degrees and still wore them. I just can't go back. Every other tennis shoe feels like I'm putting a tank on my feet. I will be in the market for a new pair of these bad boys the Spring because I have wore then completely out. They are by far my favorite shoe I have ever had.

  • I've had the minimus and the nike free but my favorite shoe like that is the innov-8 f-lite 195s. Not a barefoot shoe per say but it hardly has any drop and felt more like a shoe to me. Great for running and for lifting/working out.

Are you true to size in the Minimus?

I'm not sure. They fit a little weird at first and I had a blister when I did not use socks but they are fine now.

I meant do you wear the same size in them as you would any other shoe?

You might be missing the point. Barefoot shoes are not meant to just be lighter, the whole point is to strengthen your arch so it wont be so flat.

Well that's ducking interesting, man. I'm just judging by what I've read and people who run have told me. Weedline you go to The Trak Shak in Homewood? They have good ish there.

Oh, yeah, I do. I got the wide ones though. They are really tight at first.

  • I think i'm going to pull the trigger on some Minimus 10s. They're about $50 cheaper than my Karhu's.

These are pretty cray, but when it comes to running the shoes the wilder the better IMO.

I would recommend fixing your flat feet and then making a decision on which shoes you would like to use.
The problem that all minimalistic/barefoot runners have is that even with the Vibrams on there is still significant insulation of the foots proprioceptors. Lie any other exercise program compliance is the key.
These inserts will activate the foot and gait related muscles with every step that you take.
