Barton S. -Josh Dobbs Perspective

  • Barton,

    I. Great job on the CSS Game of the Week between Alpharetta & Johns Creek this past Friday. Being that you called the game from the booth, just wanted to get your opinion on Dobbs after seeing him in person.

II. Staff (Gerry, JC, Barton, Keith):

Any updates on whether Texas will offer Dobbs as I read that the Longhorns were scouting him.

III. Once again, being that the kid has roots from Birmingham, Alabama......really disappointed that Bama didn't offer. I've been a fan of Dobbs since last Fall, 2011. In addition to his on field exploits I really like his off-field intangibles. Kid has great character and the cerebral aptitude to attend Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc on his academic merits alone.

IV. Dobbs led the state of Georgia during the Regular Season in passing yards and TD passes for the 2nd year in a row. This season he had 3,354 yards, 25 passing TDs, ~400 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs in 10 games. That averages out to 335 passing yards, 2.5 TD passes, 40 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD per game. Nice numbers for Georgia's largest class with games against 2-3 different teams in the top 10.

375 yards of offense per game
3.5 TDs accounted for per game

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Any posters that happened to catch the game, it would be nice to get your perspective as well.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

  • FYI...Dobbs was also an Elite 11 Finalist this summer, finishing in the top 11 at the event in California.

Texas is evaluating, but not sure if they go on a 2nd QB in the class. With the understanding we consider Tyrone Swoopes an athlete, so Texas may or may not have a QB in this class - that will have to be determined with A LOT of development over time IMO, as has always been the case with Swoopes.

I was told Stanford is essentially in the same boat. Like him a lot, but have a QB in the class already and it's tough for either to run the risk of losing one for the chance at another.

    Thanks Gerry,

Just read that Stanford really wants Dobbs for baseball with the possibility of football a couple years after being on campus.

Very rare to be that elite in football, baseball, and academically.....

I think he's better than the QB verbal commits at Bama and UGA in the 2013 class......just my opinion watching film and Elite 11 Regional Camps & Finals. Really think this kid will be the one that got away 4-5 years from now.

I see Andrew Luck/RGIII "characteristics" on and off the field on this kid.....and work ethic and character go a long way in determining success.

  • Kick Parker McLeod to the curb, pick up Dobbs. Seems simple for Bama IYAM.

You've probably stated this before, but what are the odds of Dobbs signing with Bama given an offer?

I think it would be very high. Definitely know he was very interested in the Spring as Bama Staff stopped by Alpharetta High School.

I'm not being mean about McLeod but I was shocked when he got the Bama offer. He's an OK high school QB but I'd rate him probably 7th-9th best.....in Cobb County. Honestly, if I were coach at Georgia State he'd be a borderline offer or preferred walk-on. Have no clue how Bama made this offer decision and most Walton fans although maybe not willing to say it publicly....believe that Walton's back-up is better.

One of the biggest head scratching offers I've ever seen. Watch Walton's full game tapes from this season in the games he's played and see if you feel otherwise.

Not being mean....but objective in my analysis. Very smart, good kid....not an SEC QB. Not even close.

I think Cooper is going to be a great fit, but I'd love to have a guy like Dobbs to challenge him. Mainly, I'd take almost anybody as our second QB instead of McLeod. Hell, I'd trade a five dollar footlong from Subway for him.

5 dollar foot longs everywhere are insulted for being compared to ginger

I don't really care for the "five dollar footlongs." I'm more of a Subway Melt or Italian BMT kind of guy.
