Been trying a vegitarian diet for a week now...

  • Don't go too hard on the soy milk, unless you want swampass.

  • I did a week experiment my freshman year at Mizzou and I felt great after. Then I went back to my normal habits and felt awful. I ate meat for two years after that week and then stopped the day after the 2011 Superbowl. I haven't eaten meat since and I haven't even craved it.

Sure, when I tell people, I may sound like a pansy, but I simply have more energy and don't get that sick feeling after eating.

Usually a soy milk, non-dairy greek yougurt, starwberry, banana, and blueberry smoothie in the morning along with a slice of whole wheat toast and two glasses of water.

I then have a handful of almonds, some grapes, and another glass of water for a snack.

For lunch I have a salad with kale, spinach, fruit, carrots, onions, and a tiny bit of olive oil.

After my workout I have protein in soy milk.

For a mid-afternoon snack I have one veggie and one fruit.

For dinner I have oatmeal, some protein, a veggie, and a fruit, plus another glass of water.

I also drink water/6oz of pedialite during my workout.

Its a little expensive, but no more than buying meat or eating out. I spend about 12 dollars a day on groceries.

That sounds like a vegan diet, unless you are eating some form of dairy product in there... I have been vegan almost 3 years now, and never felt better.

You were great in that vegetarian thread on our home board a few months back. The Nebraska fans on this site seem to be atypical Nebraskans.

I just moved into a new apartment and am meatless here. My neighbor cooks food for me sometimes and that is the only meat I've been eating. I'm hoping to be mostly vegan by the end of the year.

Meatless in Nebraska? C'mon man. My sister is a vegetarian as of 2 weeks ago (huge yoga person, you get the picture) and my whole family basically laughed at her when she told us at dinner. I was very close to disowning her as a family member. I mean how can you not eat meat when we got the best stuff right is our back yard?

but whatever floats your boat, more power to ya

  • The people who get their panties in a bunch about other people's eating habits crack me up. I am a vegetarian and I never discuss my diet unless people ask. But whenever somebody uses the "v word," somebody always rushes to call him a pussy and make "people for eating tastey animals" jokes. lol

  • I've given up meat for Lent a couple of times. I didn't really miss it. I didn't eat particularly healthier when I was vegetarian (lots of grilled cheeses, mozzarella sticks, etc.), so I didn't miss meat. I don't really eat a lot a lot of meat to begin with, so it didn't bother me.

Because feed lots and factory farms are extremely inhumane. Cruelty to save a few cents has no place in a civilized world.

It only counts if it gets digested. Interpret that how you wish......

Don't keep doing it for too long. You will start to turn yellow/green from lack of protein that you get from meats

I was a vegetarian for over 5 years and did not see any problems. I just made sure to eat a lot of beans (especially soy), nuts, and spinach. I also took multi-vitamins to make up for any lack in nutrients.

    Noted. Wasn't being a smart@ss btw.

Didn't think you were. When you said you her plenty of protein it struck a nerve with me simply because vegetarians all day that same line. However they don't realize the important role meats play in cell membrane development because they are hippies and don't do research. And I hate hippies

  • Im not a vegetarian but I eat lots of veggies and fruit. It's gonna seem gross but I drink most of them. I take celery, spinach, kale, cucumber, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, green apple and put through a food processor. Add a little coconut milk and bottoms up!
